I stayed in Thamel and while it is definitely a very carefully restored and looked after part of Kathmandu it isn't the real city or people. The real city has choking dust and streets of riotous traffic while Thamel feels quite gentile by comparison. Lots...More

Thames is a buzzy neighbourhood where tourists & locals mix together. Great shopping at great prices, great selection of restaurants & bars.

A great place to just walk around and chill. And also look at all the shops that are selling things. Definitely worth a visit when in Nepal

Brace yourself, put on chunky footwear & stuff plenty of rupees in your pockets! You have to go there at least once, for the Kathmandu experience! Endless souvenier shops (mostly selling the same things!) - haggle hard but with a smile & sense of humour....More

This is a busy area, very busy, crowded and noisy. But it has a lot or charm of its own kind. You find really original stuff if you are looking for hippie style pants and colorful cotton tops, wool hats and wool socks. Also a...More

Yes-Suggest plenty of Camping gear available ,but as we were already set up did not particularly take notice. Would be pretty certain you would have no problems- Also sure they are available in Pokara.
