Everyone has to hit Thamel if you are in Kathmandu. It's a bustling merchant Mecca with restaurants, bars, hotels, and countless merchants. Be sure to eat plenty of momos and visit Pilgrams Bookstore.

This is a crazy and exciting district of Kathmandu. Many kind and helpful people. Wonderful shops and restaurants. Just take a deep breath and jump in! It's an adventure like no other.

Great place to be in with friends and chill out...busy and a lot of people in the streets and good restaurants. Also 7 corner street is peaceful and chill.

We stayed in Thamel for about 5 days. It is very touristy. It is quite crowded, with narrow and many unpaved streets. Quite interesting.

The air quality is awful right now. The roads are dug up and dirt during underground utility work. The streets and alleyways are full of vehicles and shops. If you need any north fake trekking gear it is everywhere in thamel.

I only ventured out twice on foot and that required one to be wide awake, crossing the street here is quite an experience.
