If you're a first timer in Bangkok or a little nervous of the local scene - then Khao San is for you. It caters for the backpackers, the tourists, the people wanting their photos of cooked bugs, the cocktail buckets, the loud music bashing your ear drums... it's far removed from the seedy Nana Plaza scene and you'll see tourists... This place has a reputation for being a mad place, and it certainly lives up to that offering parties every night of the week, with cheap drinks / food and markets. Worth a visit while in BKK. However if you are not one for a party every night - this place also offers quiet bars. A great place to come... More

After reading through the reviews, I was very apprehensive about visiting Khao San Road. Not because of the noise or partying, but because this is the "hub" for back-packers and tourists. When my husband brought it up one night that we had nothing planned, we had a "let's go check it out" attitude. I'm genuinely glad that we did. It... More

Khaosan is probably aimed at a certain type of clientele, and it probably isn't old bores like me. If you fancy having your hair braided, buying the same homogenous T shirts all the other backpackers are wearing and eating scorpions, you will feel right at home. If loud music annoys/terrifies you, you don't want to buy a tailored suit from... More

It's like a party every night of the week. Great street food, line of pubs, bohemian clothes, touristy stalls and crazy travelers. And in the middle of it all, a 7-Eleven, Pharmacy and money exchange centers. You cannot possibly need anything more. If you love to party the night away, get here!

This place is not easy to access since you can only visit it by bus, tuk tuk, or taxi. There were many bars especially at night. There were several street food types like pad thai, mango sticky rice, even fried bugs. I think this place was overrated unless you are actually aiming for the nightlife.

Busy, too noisy from loud music to talk in pubs and full of scammers. Lots of peeps though. Would recommend the side streets where u will find talented live music, great food and atmosphere

Came here by BTS to saphan Taksin station, then bought 150 baht one day river pass for chao phraya tourist boat (hop on and off multiple times to 1730). Stopped at Phra Athit Pier. There are a lot of bars along the road but most of them not air-con. There are stalls selling fried insects, taking picture of them will... More

This is a great street. First timers would be a little intimidated but you soo get used to the constant noise and people. If you want an eye opener to backpacker life this is it.

This street is a must do in Bangkok, during day and night. There you will find good and cheap street food, souvenirs, drinks, parties, crazy people...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
