Super amazing sanctuary, genuine ethical elephant sanctuary. Elephants are so well-treated here, they look very healthy and happy, elephants are treated like a family. Non & Chai you guys are the nicest people i met in Chiang Mai!

Experience to remember in Chiang Mai
Feb 2020
We were traveling through the north of Thailand, in search of local people's stories and unique experiences. We knew that we would like to interact with elephants, but we did not know how to choose the right place among several in Chiang Mai province.

Thanks to our host Mint - the owner of the farm stay in Ban Nong Tao village we knew about Non and his Elephant Freedom Village.

We spent an afternoon at EFV, learning about the elephants, "cooking" food for these big guys and feeding them. We even had a bath together with them, playing, washing and refreshing!

It was such a great time that I even forgot about my phone and fully enjoyed the time in the company of villagers and those gorgeous big animals. At the end of the day it felt like we were one big family and I did not want to leave.

We are grateful to Non and his team for such friendly hospitality, and for providing us such a pleasant experience.

Thank you so much Freedom Village for the trip! To anyone interested in an authantic adventure this is your place. Stay over and care for elephants, swim at a waterfall or explore the local villages. Of all the available options, I highly suggest putting this at the top of your list. A+

Fantastic Trip!

This is an amazing experience. It is professionally run by local elephant care experts who have generations of accumulated knowledge. Learn traditional care techniques in a beautiful rural setting. Highly recommended along with an overnight stay. This is the perfect northern Thailand getaway.

Best ethical animal experience ever
Mar 2020 • Solo
This was my favorite experience I had in Thailand, the perfect dose of nature and ethical tourism. The tour guide Non has a passion for animal rights and cares deeply for his elephants which he has had passed down to him in his family line. He refers to these elephants as not money making tools nor a pet but family.

We had a beautiful day of making elephants food, playing with them in a river, cleaning them and taking professional photos. Non also provided a huge healthy lunch and catered to my vegetarian needs. He went so out of his way for me I really appreciated his effort.

If you don’t know which sanctuary to decide on do this one because it is fair and ethical. It is hours from the city but Non picks you up and it is outside of the city for a reason. Elephants belong in nature with no fences or riding. I am so happy I decided to go to this freedom village.

Amazing day with the elephants!
Mar 2020 • Friends
Me and my friends took the half day program. We fed the elephants with fruits, then took a bath together in the river and fed then again with vitamin balls. The village is amazing! You spend the whole time with the elephants, they are so kind and beautiful. After taking care, you have a nice lunch. You notice that the staff treat them nicely, just like they are part of a family. It is a local business, not focused on marketing. I loved it!

So much more than just Elephants!
Feb 2020 • Solo
There are so many Elephant sanctuaries in Thailand and I tried to research as many as I could. This one seemed the most authentic and ethical and it was! I feel that this camp is focused on the care for the elephants as members of the local Karen Tribe. Nong, our guide and the owner of Elephant Freedom Village, was fantastic explaining the history of his people and their connection to the elephants. They are using this building to but only care for the elephants they love, but also give back to guys local community. Nong has big dreams of growing the village to give his elephants more land and more work for this local community. The lunch was also so yummy and filling and we also got to meet one of his local friends who grows his own coffee and learned some Karen philosophy.

I also have to add that I accidentally booked this trip on the same day as a waterfall trip and they accommodated me and picked me up the following day even though it was my mistake. Thank you Nong and the rest of the elephant keepers and Nong's friends and family.

Freedom is the word

We had a fantastic day at Freedom Elephant Village, our day was made very special by Nong Chai, Carmel and the team. Not only did we have an amazing time with these majestic creatures, we learnt about the Karen hill tribes. This is a well run establishment and the Elephants clearly treated with kindness, would definitely recommend a visit here. Michaela & Phil
