Amazing Elephant carvings

Among the many Wats we visited, this was the only one with so many intically carved elephants surrounding a monument. Both special and unusual, well worth a visit.

As the oldest wat in the city, this is a worthy side trip just to get an idea how the wat's have developed over time - from brick and mortar pyramid style structures, to the delicate and ornate Lanna style.

This is a MUST SEE. I highly recommend going there. Leisurely walk around. Lots of gold. You can go inside the temple. Dress appropriately.

It is amazing that you can walk around and be up close to this ancient temple complex! Don't miss it. We went at the end of the day and no one else was there. It was so peaceful and you can climb around and explore..... beautiful

Its best attraction would have to be the elephant chedi. Impressive also would be the lack of visitors, despite the fact that it is of historical importance as Chiang Mai’s oldest temple, and that the vihara contains one of Thailand’s most revered Buddha images.

Highly recommended if you have time to see only a few temples. Wat Umong & Wat Suan Dok is also must visit temples! This place has lesser people too, maybe is out of the way but i think is worth the visit.

Lovely serene complex - on site of Chiang Mai origins. The elephant stupa seems unique with 12 elephants at the base, and zodiac animals along outer wall of complex
