My partner and I had an unforgettable time with Ying and Daniel. They are warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and their passion for food and cooking is infectious. We began our morning collecting the ingredients we needed for the day, both at the market as well as in Ying’s and Daniel’s garden. It was an eye-opening experience being able to learn about and sample the local produce / herbs. Through preparing food together, not only did we learn how to make the ingredients sing, we shared a lot of stories and laughter. Their drive to unearth the roots of Thai recipes and their efforts to be sustainable/zero-waste is inspiring (Ying even makes their soap!). While we had only met that morning, by the time we left, we felt that we were old friends.

Spending the day with Ying and Daniel is one of our favorite memories of our trip to Thailand, and we can’t wait to be back the next time we are in Koh Samui.

I can highly recommend this wonderful and original Thai cooking class where you are taught by Ying who is so passionate about the traditional Thai cooking recipes and methods.
You learn how to pick fresh ingredients from the local wet market, she shares valuable tips on how recognise fresh fish, good locally made curry paste and which herbs and vegetables are used in cooking different Thai dishes.
The class takes places in her home where Daniel her husband was our host as well. Ying and Daniel made us feel welcome in their unique and ecofriendly home. Everything was prepared and supported with so much love and dedication.
All steps were clearly explained and easy to follow. Every dish was delicious! I am looking forward to recreating all we have learned today back home. Thank you for this fun and amazing experience.

Best cooking class we have done. Ever. We had an unforgettable day cooking southern Thai food with Ying and family, learning about the history, ingredients, recipes and beyond. More detail below.

We started at the local market where Ying explained not only each ingredient but also tips and tricks for identify what is authentic. Ying's passion, enthusiasm and laugh were instantly infectious. We knew we were in for a treat.

We then drove to Ying's home, a gorgeous traditional Thai home amongst palm trees. The food options all sounded fascinating. We settled for a Southern trio of a stir fry, salad and fragrant pepper curry. We cooked everything from scratch, taking time to understand the profile of each dish ti balance the flavours. Ying and Daniel created a relaxed and fun atmosphere throughout the day. Highlights included cooking over coal, looking through old Thai cookbooks, and cutting fresh herbs aand spices -many new to us- from their beautiful garden. Needless to say, everything we cooked was absolutely delicious, some of the tastiest and most interesting Thai food we have had.

Overall this was one of our favourite experiences in Thailand. Ying's passion for traditional cooking, her research into the history of each recipe, and her charm come together to create a truly special cooking class - the best we have ever done.

12/10, don't miss.

Thank you Ying, Danile and family for the great class and all the lovely laughs. Hopefully see you again in future.

I recently took a Thai cooking class with Ying and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. The experience began with a visit to a local fresh market where we picked out the ingredients for the dishes we would be making. This added a whole new level of excitement and authenticity to the class, as we got to see the fresh and colourful ingredients that would be used in our cooking. Ying was a fantastic host, explaining the different spices and ingredients used in Thai cuisine and their significance and history. The hands-on cooking experience was fantastic and Ying was a great teacher, breaking down each step of the recipes and providing helpful tips and tricks along the way. I was able to learn and prepare dishes with confidence and ease. The end result was delicious and the entire day was a fun and interactive experience. I highly recommend this Thai cooking class with Ying to anyone who loves food and wants to expand their culinary skills. It was an unforgettable experience and I can't wait to make these dishes at home. This was a masterclass and one of the highlight of our month in Thailand

Such a wonderful experience! This is for real foodies or beginners. Excellent value for money. Ying begins by taking you to the market and expertly explains about the local food. Then you travel to her beautiful and tranquil home where you see her garden and learn more about local plants and produce. We made three dishes that we selected from her list which she changes often. The food is incredible and I will remember the experience forever. It is a whole day of immersion in real Thai lifestyle and we had such a laugh with Ying and her partner Daniel. I can't recommend this experience enough.

What an incredible day we had at Yings cooking class.
I loved the fact that she meets you at a local wet market and you shop for all the ingredients that you’ll use for your chosen recipes.
Getting stuck in with the locals and being taught so much as you go along.
Yings knowledge on Thai cuisine is unquestionable.
She modestly says that she’s still learning every day , but she is a fountain of knowledge .
I took my mum for this class and Ying/Daniel really catered for our every need.
We all chopped , sliced and pounded throughout the lesson with the freshest of ingredients .
Not a single ingredient came out of a tin/packet or sachet.
Ying insists that all her recipes are to be made from scratch without cutting any corners and that’s the type of cooking that appeals to me .
All in all, I would highly recommend anyone who’s a keen cook to book her class.
Was worth every penny .

What is advertised is a cooking class. What is delivered is a cultural experience that leaves one with so much more than 3 (very authentic) recipes.

Ying and Daniel live in a recently constructed modest home made of recycled wood. An open and breezy space that makes you feel as if you have stepped into the past. The large grounds that make up their property is an oasis crafted by their own hands. It is the perfect location for making memories that, personally, I'm sure will stay with us for ever.

In summary if you are looking for a superbly hosted cultural and educational experience you must do this. BUT - sign up early as we were lucky to catch them when they had availability!

We had the most marvellous and special experience not just in learning the often intangible intricacies of Thai cooking (that we could never gleam from online!), but also in getting to know such wonderful, knowledgeable and worldly people as are Ying and Daniel.

To say that it was the best cooking class we have ever done is most definitely not an understatement. Ying taught us not only what but also how - how to actually taste to balance flavours - something that recipes often tell you to do, but you can't do unless you've properly practised and been guided in it.

We gained a deep appreciation not just for the cuisine but also the culture, history and geography of this fascinating corner of the world.

Thank you, Ying and Daniel, for an unforgettable experience. We wish you all the luck and success in this beautiful thing you do as you unveil the culinary secrets of this magnificent cuisine to other people.

Yes, yes, yes! It was simply a lovelyyy day and one that we would thoroughly recommend, a top highlight from the holiday. Ying and Daniel are fantastic hosts, who live in a truly magical place, it was great to be able to share it with them for a day.

The day started by meeting Ying at the local market and immediately she was warm, friendly and very knowledgeable - Ying explained aspects of the market, its produce and use in Thai cuisine. In actual fact relatively little was purchased from the market as Daniel and Ying grow a lot of their own produce, in keeping with the seasonal menu options available to select from.

Ying drove us a short distance to their home and we spent about 5 hours learning and applying traditional Thai cooking methods to our selected menu choices. Ying is incredibly knowledgeable (as are her two assistants!!) and the day was so much fun: learning the six key Thai flavours, creating pastes, cooking on the charcoal fire and of course eating the end results!

If/when we return to Samui we will definitely be looking forward to another day with Ying and Daniel!!
