We have been in Lamai many times.
Always enjoyed the beach and pretty clear water.
Ok the weather was windy and big waves but the amount of rubbish, wood, plastics on the beach are not very attractive..... I hope that now Thailand is reopening the resorts on Lamai beach take their responsibility and organize clean ups otherwise the pool villa’s will be the big winners instead of the beach resorts......

This is the second time we have visited lamai beach. Last time we came was in June 2019. I noticed this time that in February the seas are rougher and that caused lots of debris on the beach. I went round myself picking up 3 bags of plastic and glass bottles plus other horrid things like babies nappies. I feel like every bar/hotel should clean their area of beach as it is very off putting. I even saw someone burying debris in the sand instead of removing it! Unbelievable. The beach would be beautiful with a little care and attention. You have to bear in mind that it has been closed down for 2 years so should be cleaner than it is.

Gorgeous beaches. But, Samui and Phuket feel like an abandoned waste site right now. They are an astonishing sight. TAT talks about the bustling Lamai and Chaweng areas? They look like post Apocalypse bomb zones, due to a stunningly inept lack of government action. One step away from Chernobyl. Come and see a booked down, abandoned, trashy, burnt out wasteland.

Visited with the family. Beach was deserted and had most of it to ourselves. Lovely little area rented out sunbeds free if you ate or drank and prices were very reasonable. Water slopes slowly so my 3 year old could play safely. Water very calm and waves just bobbed slightly. Lovely way to spend a day.

Quite, long and reach of sand beach, in the south part of the island! Little of coconut trees shade around.Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes. Deep water, waves from middle day... Visit afternoon for the best sunset views...

Great beach, good for swimming and never overcrowded!
The view from the beach to the mountains is beautiful as well, it looks a bit Hawaïan...

We was hear for only a few hours, so only time for a couple of stops, our cruise company said go to this beach, to be honest it’s a busy commercial one , would of preferred a local quiet one, both sand and sea clean and plenty of sun beds you can hire with lots of places to eat and drink on offer. We found a local vendor further up on the beach selling spring rolls and doughnuts for a very cheap price. Nice place to relax for a short while even if a bit crowded.

I visited Lamai beach whilst on holiday in Koh Samui and left after only a couple of hours as the sea was so rough there. I like to swim and am a strong swimmer but didn’t feel comfortable in the water there. Because the sea is rough it wasn’t so clean and neither was the beach as a lot of debris was washed up onto the shore. On the plus side the sunbeds are free at a lot of the beach clubs so long as you buy some food and drinks. There is another beach in Lamai called Crystal Bay which I would recommend as the sea is much calmer and clearer and the sand is like powder but there were no sunbeds available. The photo’s are of Crystal Bay.
