Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands.

It is a very beautiful Bay! We like it. Especially the tour guider, he is very very enthusiastic. He gave us so much interesting information. My children really liked the ship. When we arrived Sung Sot and Dau Go caves, they jumped up and they yelled. We took so many photoes. And I think it is a nice holiday

Amazing. Must take boat cruise- make it as long as you can. See the caves - can be steep stairs in places, maybe wet and dangerous inside in rainy season. Funny how in looking at photos after you've left: because of the depth perception of some of the islands behind other islands, the bay water looks like an infinity edge... More

Well worth a visit. Unusual limestone islands. You can imagine the dragon flying between the islands fighting enemies!

Difficult to see adequately without taking a tour of some sort, and if coming from Hanoi it really requires an overnight stay. Nevertheless a must see if in the north of Vietnam

We had an incredible tour of Halong Bay on a private junk. The lunch was incredible as was the view we enjoyed during our 4 hour tour of the Bay. We were also able to take in the caves which we thoroughly enjoyed
