Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands.

This port has expanded recently as there are many new buildings built around it for dwellings and retail businesses which were empty when I visited. The boat was just for our party on a Saga tour and it was immaculately clean providing adequate seating on the sun deck above and inside in the shade. We spent at least three hours... More

There are many many tours for HaLong Bay and many operators. I took a three day-two night options with the Golden Bay operator. First I will say the area is awesome. Once you are about 30 minutes out of the harbor, the lanes open up. There are really too many boats at the normal stops. I counted 40 with one... More

We have just completed 3-day, 2-night Halong Bay cruise. Essentially unmissable. Glorious almost indescribable beauty. Yes it is busy but this is one of the world's wonders. Each boat carries fewer than 50-60 at most and so you are not squeezed whilst cruising. The bay is massive and even the sights are on a grand scale and the volume of... More

We did a day trip to halong bay with OceanTravel the bay itself is extremely beautiful and taking a short fishing boat ride through the bay with the locals is well worth it. Heavenly cave is very nice although quite busy. I would recommend doing a return day trip as we stayed on in halong city and its terrible -... More

We extremely loved an overnight boat trip booked from HALONG SAPA EXPERTS website agent with many amazing things to do and see: visit cave, visit floating village, visit island and beach and they also arranged great food and drinks for us. We do recommend the trip with this agent.

We booked a private tour from our hotel the Oriental Central in Hanoi. The cost was $125 USD each. The wife and I were picked up at 7.30am by our guide and driver, in the car we sped past the tour buses heading the same way. It took us just over 3 hours driving time to get to the harbour... More

Expect to see a lot of buses and cars full of tourists. If you go with a boat sorry to say but you need to go private. We did and that's the only way you could enjoy the ride. Otherwise you will be pack eating cheap food, visiting caves in a hurry...We'll not exactly the images of Indochine movie from... More
