The night market is a celebration of everything that Hanoi has to offer. It takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 8 pm to 11 pm. However, prices on Sunday are better than that on Sunday. However, the prices you get on normal days in shop are better and in fact, the night market prices were quoted on the higher side. You must bargain a lot and not hope for anything authentic.

This was pretty convenient for shopping but only if you already want to buy things. Our teenagers were happy expanding their wardrobe at good prices. Agree with others it is repetitive and a few stalls close by the lake are probably enough before it's all the same. Best value is in keeping it short and finishing off with a beautiful walk around the lake where the vendors are gone and is filled with activities and shows instead, all free and family friendly. A completely different and relaxed vibe! We had also been warned about pick pockets and shady vendors in the market area. I got ripped off like others! Someone recommended have lots of small change and only give exact money and this is fantastic advice. Heaps of chancers around. Is extremely crowded at the market, mayhem in the streets where the traffic is blocked, but really joyful around the lake.

We were walking back to our hotel which was in the Hanoi Old Quarter after dinner at Bun Cha Ta restaurant. Along the way we passed by a busy pedestrianised area which was the night market. I could not remember the name of the street. It was a Friday evening. The streets were closed to traffic. Vendors set up stalls selling clothings, souvenirs, food, paintings etc. It was a lively place. The most prominent and most brightly lit building was the Ham Ca Map (which means teeth of the shark). That appeared to be the most photogenic and sought after spot for that instagrammable shot. The weather was cool that evening. We had so much fun just being outdoor and wandering around (when you don’t have to worry about motorbikes circling round you).

A must-visit place on your Vietnam trip. In fact, this is a weekend night market, open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Try to reach there around 6 p.m. and experience the arrangements for the night market. How they are changing a normal street into a night market where a lot of antique shops, street foods, dress shops, etc. are available. Vietnamese are very kind and always put a smile on their faces, which makes us more comfortable and gives us a feeling to spend more time there. Like everywhere, you need to bargain at some points. Sometimes, we may feel it is worth buying something at their cost. We stay there till the market closes. We had street food, bought many items, and talked to many local people. You need to add weekends to your trip to experience the night market. We put the night market on our last day for final shopping before going back home. This is a must-visit place to complete your Vietnam-Hanoi holiday.

This is actually a busy thoroughfare throughout the day which turns into a night market after 7 in the evening. The flea market is good for tourists though preference would be to shop from the Dong Xuan wholesale market. The latter closes by 6pm. So if one has the evening only for shopping the night market is the good option. One may also club the Hoan Kiem lake - Nhoc Son Temple visit and finish off with night market.

During my final Sunday evening in Vietnam, I found myself wandering through the charming streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter and stumbled upon the Night Market. To my delight, I discovered that it offered everything I had purchased earlier, but at even better prices. In hindsight, I wish I had saved my shopping for this vibrant market experience. It's certainly a worthwhile addition to any itinerary, making it worth considering planning your trip around a Sunday evening in Hanoi.

So much fun with the family! Great for picking up some bargain clothing or cute souveniers. Gets very busy but is easy to navigate. Recommend finishing with a relaxing walk around the lake soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying some fun performances along the way. Also great after the intensity of the market. Teenage kids cut their teeth bargaining and picked up some decent bargains at the market (I think the stall owners were being kind!). We stopped at an ice cream stall on the lake during our walk which finished the night perfectly. Very squashy at the market and not recommended for prams, wheelchairs etc however plenty of space around the lake which would be wheelchair / pram friendly.

Compared to other night markets in Southeast Asia and Vietnam, this isn’t the best. Don’t let that discourage you from taking time out to enjoy the market. Each one is different and offers its own unique opportunities. We found wondering the streets and soaking up the atmosphere to be a very pleasant experience. It wasn’t too crowded (we didn’t feel like sardines) and we saw some interesting things on our stroll. It’s also a good opportunity to visit some of the historical places in the old section (like the gate or temples). As noted in other reviews, there are a lot of vendors selling knockoff products (which makes it a tacky experience) and not nearly as many street food vendors as you might see in other night markets.

The night market in Hanoi takes place at the weekend and extends from Ho Hoan Kiem lake at one end along Hang Dao and Hang Duong streets. It a large market that seems to go on for ever. It is very well lit and seems very safe. We were there in the summer when the area around the lake is closed to traffic in the evening at weekends and the were many families with young children walking around. The market sells food, clothing, souvenirs, etc. Prices are cheap, particularly if you bargain. However, I found there seemed to be more items with fixed pricing than in other markets I have visited in Asia.

We kind of stumbled onto the night market in Old Town in Hanoi but were glad we did. The lights were so much fun and the streets reserved for pedestrians (finally no mopeds!) were filled with young families. It was amazingly hot and humid in August, even at night, but we still had a great time.
