A rare breed of turtle enjoys this popular lake almost as much as countless locals and tourists. Hoan Kiem Lake is a dynamic daily tableau, from morning walks amid locals doing exercises on the shore, to young couples water-gazing on park benches, to the multiple shopping and sight-seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Centrally located in the city, Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a massive home base, and provides endless people-watching and recreational opportunities on the edge of the Old Quarter.

An Oasis of (semi) tranquility in the middle of a bustling city.

At the weekend this is great place to stroll. The surrounding roads are closed to traffic and it’s a great liberation from the noise and near death experiences with the bike traffic which characterize Hanoi’s adjacent Old Quarter. Young ladies, presumably from wedding or graduation ceremonies, pose by the Lake in their pastel Ao Dais, surely the world’s most elegant... More

Best area in Hanoi, in the heart of the old quarter, beautiful lake, takes a good 20 minutes to walk around and you can see everything there, locals with their kids, people exercising, coffee places, exhibitions ect. It can be crowded and peaceful at the same time. Beautiful also in the evening with the lights and a nice breeze specially... More

If only every major city had something like this right in the middle of it... Its a great break from the constant hassle of trying to cross roads and avoid being hit by mopeds. Once here, you can walk the perimeter in peace and its a nice walk too. I could imagine this might be a good place to jog... More

Walking along and looking over the expansive Hoan Kiem Lake presented an opportunity to escape from the hectic traffic and chaos in Hanoi. Here you'll see groups of locals chilling on their lunch breaks or selling local goods, tourists and the occasional (harmless) opportunistic cyclos. Be sure to walk around the lake because it's a simple yet soothing way to... More

The lake is in the heart of Hanoi. Always crowded with people and activitities, especially weekends. At weekends, all the roads around the lake turn into the walking roads. People gather together, play old games that people used to play in the 70s - 80s. You can see the Turtle Temple, The Ngoc Son Temple when reaching to the red... More

Walk around this lake day and night. Great at all times. Streets are blocked from vehicle traffic on Sundays, making it extremely popular with locals as well as tourists.

Had a chance to visit this lake during my 23 hours layover in Hanoi and I must say that you guys take a walk around this lake. Locals and tourists alike started to come here as early as 7 am to walk with their dogs, walk around, chatting, visiting the Ngoc Son temple, model photo shoot, exercising, locals practising English... Firstly, i intended to walk around and visit this lake, but when comming i saw a lot of local people and tourists walking along the road surrounded the lake, for me this area is not a really attractive place because, i prefer the quiet to busy place. However, you also should visit this one time when coming Hanoi

Nice to walk round and plenty of places to sit and relax. Sunday is the best day to visit as the roads around it are closed to traffic. The west side/opposite side to the temple is also best as it's less touristy. Don't be surprised though if groups of teenagers approach you and ask if they can practice their English... More
