Unique blend of French colonial Architecture ,shops and coffee and Vietnam food
Hanoi train street, is unique, where one could enjoy sitting in a cafe just next to rail road. Vietnam people doing their best to prevent overcrowding along this rail road. Listening to the story the origin of Vietnam delicious egg coffee, I enjoyed was a memorable experience

    Atmospheric and chaotic
We felt entirely at ease wandering amongst the narrow streets and alleys or crossing the crazy traffic at a slow pace as advised. So much produce whether cultivated or produced, its mind boggling. Enjoyed the experience and pleased we chose to reside in this area.

Old Quarter is an area you must explore
A must area to explore. Be prepared to walk and walk and walk and get lost. The streets are like a maze. We found that when we got “lost” we would ask someone the direction to the lake and it helped with orienting ourselves. Great area for shopping, eating, drinking and exploring. Be sure to look up to see the beautiful old buildings.

    Very special
Adore Hanoi. There is abuzz, a vibe, a happiness and energy to this wonderful capital. If you walk around the Lake on a Sunday, enchanting young Vietnamese rush up to you and ask to practise their English with you. Always sit down and spend time with them; they love it, you enjoy it and helps them - the main point of the exercise.

    Beautiful Chaos
We liked our daily visits to Old Quarter while in Hanoi for food, shopping and sighteeing. We went to the night market everynight and regretted that we didnt buy all take-home items from here. We went to Saigon after Hanoi but everything is more expensive.

Wonderful little streets, full of color and life.
You have to spend a day there; walking around, feeling the vibe, mingling with the crowds. A unique experience. Might take you a while to get used to it and to the traffic but then it kicks in; this place is so alive. It is clean believe it or not, no beggers, no homeless people, no trash on the ground. Just nice people going on with their lives and trying to make an honest living. Love it!

Stay and enjoy all its got to offer
We stayed in two different hotels in the Old quarter whilst using it as a base to explore Northern Vietnam (Sapa and Ha long bay). The streets are buzzing and there are lots of small shops and restaurants. Once you get used to dodging the mopeds its a really great place to visit. From the Night market to Beer corner there is something for everyone. Lots of sky bars etc.

    Charming Place
Charming and bustling neighborhood located in the heart of the city. The area is known for its narrow streets, historic architecture, and traditional culture. It's a fantastic place to wander and explore, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes to discover.

    Authentic part of Hanoi
Such a nice authentic place of Hanoi. Stayed here all the nights in different hostels. We really felt like we were where everything happened and in walking distance to everything. The old quarter is charming. Definitely worth a visit and I 100 % recommend booking your accommodation somewhere here.

    Life in Hanoi
Walking through Old quarter gives you a good idea how Vietnam was several years ago under French and the new Vietnamese government. The food street during weekend was so crowded. Again gave you how normal life goes on here.

A large old town area with many streets and side streets unfortunately all full of bikes even if you get rid of the cars but that’s Vietnam! Intrigued by the train going through a busy narrow street, loved all the cafes and trying different coffees and teas. Many interesting shops with negotiation to be done and vibrant markets and stalls! Loved it!

A chaotic, vibrant, dirty and polluted place. If you’re young, like to party and thrive in chaos this might be the place for you. The food is good, the coffee excellent and the people are friendly. I met some lovely young families around Hoan Kiem Lake which are memories I hold dear. Ultimately, though, after 1-2 days I really wanted to leave.

Many cities in various Asian countries have crowded and noisy areas like this.

Admittedly, with all the motorbikes, cars, lack of sidewalks and bikes parked on what’s left of any sidewalk, it can be difficult to walk. Not to mention the noise, food smells and people sitting in front of the restaurants and coffee shops.
It makes for good photographs however.

Walk carefully and don’t be careless with your cellphone and money as it makes for easy pickings for pickpockets. It seems like this area has the most foreigners of any city in Vietnam.

Overall it’s fun, especially in the evening when a zillion people are out.
