I've lived in SE Asia for more than ten years but never had so strongly the sense of being in Asia. The activity is nonstop in these narrow streets, the noise of hooting traffic is deafening and the smells very mixed. One has to be alert at all times because of the waves of motorcycles and often the pavement is... More

One of the most interesting and fascinating urban neighbourhoods I have ever visited. Great location. Easy to spend a few days here. Lots to see and do. Weekends worthwhile because of traffic free evenings on a lot of streets which makes a great atmosphere with the night market and free live music around the lake.

We did a 30 minute Cyclo tour to get our bearings. That's the bicycles with the seat in the front for a passenger. Just do it. Crazy city with motor bikes everywhere. Loved it.

Being in the old quarter is like being in a maze - there is a wonderful buzz and lots to see and do - we spent time by the lake listening to buskers play traditional music, enjoyed coffee, and visited many interesting shops. It is easy to get lost and lots of fun finding your way again. There are tuk... More

We enjoyed our visit to the Old Quarter it was great seeing all the local food, the old buildings and the way of life there. Its very different to Saigon as the people are friendlier and are not always trying to sell you things.

We stayed, as most tourists do, in the old quarter. It's easy to get around to all the sights from here as well as where you can find great food and atmosphere. The lake is lovely to walk around and plenty of things to see and do. Hanoi is very different to southern regions of Vietnam but it was great... More
