Over-priced ride. Took Airport Taxi Group cab from the queue in front of the Noi Bai Airport. The ride by meter to the Old Quarter cost VND 480,000, 20% more than a ride quoted by Hanoi Transport Service for a private 7-seater chauffeured car!
The hotel also said a taxi arranged by them from the airport would have cost just VND 350,000.
So avoid Airport Taxi Group.

We booked Kiwi Taxi to collect us from Hanoi Train station, however the train arrived 45 minutes early. Kiwi taxi had in the most Professional manner, requested full details and contacts of our Group.
Prior to our early arrival, they sent a message to check on us. After we arrived, they were in constant contact with us to ensure we were ok, and confirm where we were at the Train Station.’
The taxi arrived, a very nice SUV, a nice driver and off we went to the Airport

Actually our in bound flight got delayed by almost one and half hour in spite of the same the driver was waiting and meet us were we decided to meet, this kind of understanding is simply what is needed for trusting any travel service company since at times the customer is left helpless because of such external circumstantial delays

Before arriving in Hanoi, I had heard a lot about taxi scams, so I thought I was pretty well prepared and on guard for this, however, I was wrong!
I arrived in Hanoi late evening and had to wait for my partner to arrive on a later flight which came in about 1am. The bus to the old quarter had finished for the night and I was having issues downloading the grab and uber apps on my phone, and the only other way to get to the city at that time of the morning was by the taxis in the rank outside the terminal....great.
Both my partner and I unwilling went and caught one of these cabs and I made clear to the driver that I had been here before and I know the costs etc (I hadn't really, I just thought this was a good tactic to avoid scamming, but he saw through my ruse!) and he agreed and spoke great English at the time.
Upon leaving the airport, the driver decided to roll out onto the freeway at approximately 15mph whilst lots of cars and bikes sped past us beeping their horns for us to speed up. This lasted a little while, then he finally took off to a whopping 30mph... I already knew this was going to be a bad ride, so I mapped the route on my phone and showed the driver and he just ignored it.
According to my map we were about 19 minutes to the Hotel, however the driver decided to turn off and go a different way which bumped the time of the journey on the map up to 30 minutes. I asked him what he was doing and turn back and showed him my map, but 'surprisingly' he now doesn't speak or understand English anymore.
Anywho, time goes by with multiple points of the journey slowing down to walking speed on freeways etc - We then arrive into the city and he stops, on the freeway!, and starts playing with his satnav trying to find a more complex route, instead of going straight like his satnav says. I am sat in the back, looking right at the satnav, shouting at him to go and to follow the map he is looking at and he just ignores me (not understanding English conveniently, however I am sure my body language and attitude could be read internationally!).
Finally, after a sketchy 45 minute ride, we arrive at our hotel and he is trying to charge VND500,000, however I refuse to pay this and get it down to VND400,000 - lucky me.
Taxi scams really are a big thing in Vietnam, especially Hanoi (Ho Chi Minh was ok with Mai Linh & Vinasun). I went mentally prepared to deal with a taxi scamming, but still got scammed anyway. Moral of the story, don't be like me. Get a grab (this app is amazing), Uber, Mai Linh OR have your hotel organise a pick up. Pick up from hotel may cost around VND300,000/ VND350,000, but at least its not as sketchy as a 1am taxi ride in a new city with dodgy driver!
Good luck y'all and enjoy Vietnam, it is a great place and I loved it. Don't let the taxi drivers get the better of you or mar your view of the country. Enjoy!

Beware. I got scammed by a taxi from this group today on a fare from the Pearl Hotel to the Ho Chi Minh Museleum. The driver made a 10 minute ride, 30 minutes.

My hotel booked me this taxi this morning and it was a big mistake!!! From Nhachung Old Quarter to NoiBai airport, driver (taxi number 8482) charged me 500,000VND, while the receptionist did inform me price only around 200,000_300,000VND. I refused to pay 500,000VND and he showed me the amount shown in taxi meters 500,000vnd. Well, what a scam from Hanoi airport taxi !!!

The fare was almost exactly $25 AUD but for about 35 minutes not as cheap as we expected, our second shock after landing in the capital. First alarming experience was trying to coax three ATM'S to cough up a few million VND, more on that later. The expensive airport to Old Quarter ride whilst not too extreme considering other soon-to-be-scammed taxi rides, meant we had to find a better way, we did. Most alleys and back streets have small "travel agencies' offering transport to the airport, we took advice from our hotel and sought a fixed price nearby. Score! The incoming 421,000 VND became a set $10 USD, less than half! Worth trying because the agency issues a receipt, we pay at the agency and only tip a small amount if warranted. Note: This was not a taxi service, an unmarked newish, air-conditioned white, private car. Highly recommended so to avoid the taxis.

Booked the Taxi 1 day in advance online and got an email response with my pick up adress. On day of departure i phoned Hanoi Airport Taxi, just to be sure that the Taxi will arrive in time. The woman there explained to me that she hadn't looked at the online reservations since more then one day because she was overbooked. Bad luck for me, so i had to find another transport to the airport. Don't book here your taxi.

When we taked this taxi the driver said 13 US to the international airport. I give him 20 us. He changed my billet on the way. When we arrived he didn't give us our money back. Was a big fight. We had to call the police and airport security who made that him back our money. Be careful with taxis especially with this taxi in Hanoi
