About
À Ố Show is one of Vietnamese Bamboo Circus performances. À Ố - derives from Làng Phố, which means ‘village and city’. À Ố Show tells a captivating story of the transition from the peaceful life of the countryside to the fast-paced metropolitan life of modern Southern Vietnam. The soul of village life and, in stark contrast, familiar scenes from the city, are beautifully brought to life -- with bamboo! The stunning simplicity of the bamboo props frames an awe-inspiring circus featuring acrobatics, contortion, juggling, and stunting. Throughout the show, both traditional and modern music harmonize richly, performed live with 17 musical instruments. À Ố Show has become a world-renowned circus, critically acclaimed in 11 countries.

A must see in the iconic Opera House so that adds value getting to not only enjoy AO show but also an extended visit inside the most historicly fascinating building in Viet Nam.
Bought tickets online about a week in advance which I strongly suggest as we got Row B on center aisle. Row A was filled with Viet kids who did not utter a peep the entire show , their deportment such a welcome contrast with Chinese or Occidental kids who could never sit still or stay quiet for a full hour. NOBODY tried to violate the cellphone ban either, nor the food and drink ban , again in marked contrast to audiences elsewhere. Perhaps this is the silver lining of living in an authoritarian state.
It was also refreshing that there were no parental warnings or age restrictions, despite the sexual content of the show including a gay male kissing a straight male on the lips. In many countries, the show would be banned outright or at least condemned and picketed by social conservative and homophobes because of some risque moments.
This is also a warning to those who would be offended by seeing a male to male kiss, or simulated hetero sex, not to attend. Toto I don't think we are in Kansas anymore.
Good seats will make a huge difference in enjoyment. Buying tix right before the show therefore a bad idea as late arrivals stuck in back would have inferior view of the action which was not at the front of the stage.
The clown running up the aisle is an idea copied from Canadian Cirque de Soleil meant to distract attention from the stage while the set is being changed, hardly evidencing a disjointed performance.
Ticket cost is less than dinner or a drink in Singapore the World's most expensive city (tied with Zurich in most recent report) so the complaint about it being overpriced is rather odd frankly.

This performance demonstrated amazing talent, strength and flexibility of the performers. The story line beautifully dedicated the history of Vietnamese culture from rural to urban life and subsequent loss of rurality. However, I did find that the performance lost its focus at times, particularly moving from serious performance to comedy. At this point it felt like a showcase for differing talents rather than a smooth flowing story.
But well worth visiting.

The price is very high for such a performance in vietnam. When booking this before you will arrive in vietnam you will probably think its reasonable. But then you realise how much it is in comparison with other entertainment. I paid for the more expensive tickets but didn't think it was worth it.

Great show by fantastic artists and athletes although a bit overpriced compared to broadway or West End shows and especially so compared to prices for most things in HCMC (a high end dinner for example).
I note that Lune productions read all the reviews so I’d use this opportunity to advise that seat C1 on the first floor has a damaged seat cushion that makes it very uncomfortable to sit on for an hour and as well, line of sight is poor as you miss things. I’d suggest floor level seating away from the edges to those planning to go.

While staying in HCMC, I got the opportunity to see this incredible performance at the opera house.
It takes you on a journey across time through different aspects of Vietnam and the diverse culture of the Vietnamese people. The different emotions that are woven into the story will move you.
If you are a fan of the performing arts, please don't miss an opportunity to see this performance while visiting Saigon.

A great show to go and see.
Firstly a fantastic and historic venue.
The show is a combination of acrobatics and dancing (the ad describes it as partly like Cirque de Soleil).
The hour passes by quickly.
We bought the cheap tickets up the very top and to the side, but found these to be quite good (and cost effective).
Would recommend this show.

The show is a mix of acrobatics and modern dance with strong cultural tones. The acrobatics and dances were wonderful with split second timing and fantastic coordination. The music and singing were also lovely. My only complaint was that the hour passed by a bit too quickly.

I went with two friends to see the show and we were generally impressed by the acts, we laughed and clapped and interacted. We understood the content to be about the progression of Saigon into a bustling modern city but there was a moment during the break dancing/beatboxing scene where a male performer tries to kiss another male performer (on the cheek) and the second performer then recoils in horror and fakes a vomit into the front row of the audience. It was clear homophobia in the middle of an otherwise heteronormative representation of Saigon culture. We understand that gay culture does exist in Saigon now so we were surprised and disappointed in the display. The only way we thought Lune Productions could explain why this unnecessary scene was in there was to show how far Saigon has come since the 80s/post-American War - however controversial that may be. Ie in the 80s, gay culture was frowned upon but is more accepted now. We wondered if the end scene was one of reunification, OR if two guys with their arms around each other showing that the city has become more progressive politically and socially. I’m surprised none of the other reviewers picked up on the homophobic moment and it would be great to get a response from Lune Productions.

Dear ramonacI8441HS,
Thank you for attending our show and sharing your detailed feedback. We appreciate your positive remarks about the acts and the overall impression they left on you and your friends. We also understand your concern regarding a particular moment during the break dancing/beatboxing scene.
Our show aims to present a vibrant and diverse portrayal of Saigon's culture, encompassing its progression from the past to the present day. While we strive to provide an authentic representation, we also believe in giving artists the freedom to express their own messages through their artistic performances.
In the specific moment you mentioned, the performers were attempting to convey a message related to their own personal beliefs or experiences. We acknowledge that this scene may have been interpreted as homophobic due to the reaction of one of the performers. However, it is important to note that artistic expressions can be complex and open to various interpretations.
Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that in some Asian cultures, holding hands between men or women is often seen as a gesture of brotherhood or sisterhood, rather than solely indicating a genetic relationship. Cultural nuances and traditions can differ from one region to another, and we aim to reflect these diverse perspectives within our show.
We appreciate your perspective and understand your disappointment. We apologize if this particular scene did not align with your expectations. Thank you for bringing it to our attention and your feedback helps us to continually improve our performances and ensure that they are inclusive and respectful to all audiences.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly. We value your input and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with an enhanced experience in the future.
Kind regards,
Lune Production

What's the difference between the wow seats (purple) and the ooh seats (green)? Because both are central!?

The wow seats come with a drink ticket and a tour, you sit in the balcony. Much of the action is at back of the stage. From the balcony you can see it all. The other seats are on the floor, close to the action or far away, with less perspective as you are at or below stage. Makes a difference which you prefer and whether you like floor or balcony.

Hello the team. I have watched the show today in Hoi An and enjoyed it very much. However I'd like to have some main guidelines to understand more about the storyline (I know it is about the life of highland tribes in Tay Nguyen but more details would be welcome :)). Thankssss
