- Ali921Edinburgh, United Kingdom1,411 contributionsGo if you want loud music and expensive drinksOkay, I know a lot of people are not going to agree with this. Nothing Vietnamese here. Please avoid - it is full of tourists, extremely loud (and I mean LOUD), full of bars (who still have go-go dancers these days !?), giant sport screens and expensive eateries. However, if that is what you want, you will love it. It's supposed to be closed to traffic but scooters/motorcycles seem to think it doesn't apply to them....Visited November 2022Written 12 December 2022
- Greg JMotiers, Switzerland9 contributionsToo loooudCould be a nice bar street like Khao San in Bangkok was, but they are doing the same mistake, who plays the louder sh** music wins... Bar guys are agressive and not friendly, and too much little childs sending things, annoying. However I found a nice bar with good Craft Beers (Rooster) with nice people serving, not every place is evil.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 20 December 2022
- Luca KPerth, Australia5 contributionsCyberpunkThis is like some sort of cyber punk drug and alcohol fuelled wonderland. The neon lights are blinding but it pales in comparison to the ear piercing horrible music clashing from every club filled with girls dancing on the platforms outside, the promoters are constantly touching you and trying to pull you into there bar. But it is absolutely wild to see something like in person and is extremely cool in a weird sort of way, you could get so lost in this short street.Visited February 2023Written 8 February 2023
- scouttsLeamington Spa, United Kingdom160 contributionsVery busy bright loud party StreetThis street is very busy, very loud and a bright party area with bars competing for customers with their very loud music, bright lights & staff trying to encourage you into their bars. It’s a mad crazy place with dancers, entertainers & hawkers trying to sell their wares. If you like to party then it’s probably the place to be, although more expensive than other places. Lots of drinking and people inhaling laughing gas from balloons so definitely not a place for children. Sad to see local children being used to sell items & trying to entertain by ‘fire breathing’.. though this was obviously not linked to the bars. I enjoyed sitting down with a beer and people watching, but once was enough!Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 February 2023
- AnnPawineeBangkok, Thailand16 contributionsGood experienceStreet for nightlife lol. I feel like this street is safe more than khaosan road, bangkok because of they don’t have marijuana and everything here is very cheap. I went to the hair of the dog club is good, cheap beer and shot of tequila lol. Must to visit but don’t expect too much because is not different from any nightlife in Bangkok.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 March 2023
- AmhNottingham, United Kingdom19 contributionsGo somewhere elseAwful street, filled with over priced restaurants and annoying people trying to get you in their bars. The bars play way too loud music to compete with each other, it is deafening. No sense of Vietnamese culture. They do play live sports however if you're a football/F1 fan.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2023
- jayyuSeoul, South Korea221 contributionsInteresting for a walk throughThis place is exactly what you expect - bars and clubs and restaurants for people watching. It's loud, in your face, and is a great place to party if you are looking for that. If you are not, it is worth walking through just for the experience. We stopped to eat at one of the restaurants and do some people watching. The food was actually pretty good. The experience isn't really for me since I don't typically drink alcohol, but for younger people looking to party, this is definitely an area that would be of interest.Visited April 2023Written 26 April 2023
- LeonhknyHong Kong, China14,192 contributionsParty till you dropThis is Ho Chi Minh City's partying capital. A stroll along Bui Vien at night best captures its energy and sinful atmosphere. More like Pattaya than any other Vietnamese cities, this walking street is full of bars, clubs and restaurants for tourists. While it is not the ideal place to enjoy food, getting a pint here is an interesting experience.Visited May 2023Written 20 May 2023
- Nitin_YerunkarMumbai, India6 contributionsLoud and crowdy placeVery loud and unmanaged street. It is replica of Pattaya walking street but in walking street vehicle entries are restricted and also restaurants and pubs can not set up on the street, so people can easily walk away. Here along with traffic and roadside setup very narrow path remains to escape.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 May 2023

Busy busy busy and vibrant, .... but way too many people in your face ready to scam their way into your pocket! Advertise cheap beer, but once hooked do not have local beer but only the most expensive ones. Also charge for the small bowl of peanuts provided. Just be careful.

It's a busy street with lots of food, pubs and lighting along the street. Just a few shops along the street. Not suitable for people who prefer shopping.

During out many visits to Ho Chi Minh, we had never actually been here, we can see the attraction to western tourists, as it is quite sanitised, (and quite expensive) like disney land, however, not our cup of tea, it was a nice walk up and down the street.

The uniqueness of Bui Vien Walking Street is the vibe. The music from the pubs, the positivity of people and luscious food menus will blow your mind for sure. I had a 10 days trip to Vietnam, and got the best food from this street. As an Indian, there are 3 or 4 Indian cuisine restaurants, But I choose authentic Vietnamese food from here, and it was so good.
The only negative I felt that, Its a walking street, but lots of motorbikes and cars are passing through this road every time. It’s a bit annoying. Apart from this issue, this street got its own vibes. Go and feel it guys!

We arrived about 5:30 and mostly quiet. As we drank Mojitos, we watched the bustle increase and lights turning on from the 1st floor balcony of a bar until 7:30 when everything was picking up.
Strolled down the street and was hassled by everyone to drink or eat. My partner was taking a photo behind me, when I then was hassled for seeing “dancing girls”. All good fun and smiles all around.
Great please to visit. Reminds me of Thailand in the 80’s and 90’s (YES - last century… aghhhh).

Don’t go there. Hassled by Restaurant staff and street hawkers , Music is way to loud, can’t conduct a conversation. Went to Hotel 96 Restaurant and were overcharged with extra drinks and different drinks from what was ordered. When pointed out the bill was wrong the owner became very nasty and aggressive demanding payment of inflated bill. Later talking to an expat said it was a common occurrence along with multiple billing.
It has fallen a long way since I was previously there Pre Covid.

I am also 60 plus. And prefer some nice atmosphere and cheap beer. Not noisy at least. Hard to find a pkace with acoutics music. Well head to the coffee shop with cheap beer and some nice finger food at the end if the stretch. However, be careful of con man

Can anyone advise what currency is best for bars and restaurants. $ or £ are bar prices in us dollar

While USD is accepted at quite a few places, you tend to lose out on the conversion charges. For eg. If your bill comes to a conversion of anything above USD 3 (even 3.1 or 3.2), you will have to pay USD 4. Better to pay in Dong everywhere in Vietnam.

I cannot recommend Viet Halal foods since found none very tasty.
Coffeeshops are relatively expensive even starbucks which is near crazy buffalo.
I cannot recommend and good cofffeeshops and had coffee as an instant at my hotel.
Vietnam is not a very good touristy destination within Saigon. Careful of pickpockets and snatch ang run on moped thieves. Massage theft is also common.
Bui Vien is just a street of very loud music from multiple bars competing using noise volume.
Factually I cannot recommend anything to do in Saigon other than go elsewhere such as danang or some other beach city.
Follow the Russians for a good time in Vietnam/

Where can I get a decent (clean, professional) tattoo in HCM? I’m staying in district 1
Daniel W

Sorry I do not know where in Ho Chi Minh City that can provide a professional, clean and decent tattoo. Just be mindful that Vietnam is still a third world country and many establisments such as tattoo parlors, massage parlors, beauty nails and hair do not practice proper hygiene nor are they checked and inspected by a certified Health and Safety to ensure they meet the standards. A friend of mine went to one of these establishments and wanted to have a few moles and spots removed from his face and the person was using a soldering iron. He was very lucky nothing serious happen. Just be careful and good luck!
