We took a cruise down the Perfume River as part of a day trip to various sites around Hue. On a hot day , it will be a very relaxing way of escaping the heat for a short while. It is a very interesting to observe the day to day commerce on one of the iconic rivers of Vietnam.

I took a dragon boat trip on the way back to my hotel. The passengers were only three of us because the boat had been used for some ceremony. There was nothing particula to look at, but I was able to see ordinary people's life, such as ladies washing clothes at the river. It was interesting.

Had a dragon boat ride along the river to the pagoda, it was nice and cool on the boat. It's a wide river but not too busy with boats as some other rivers we've been on have been. If your getting a boat from the waterfront in Hue haggle the price.

Touted as one of the 'must-do' things in Hue, I am not convinced that seeing the tombs, pagoda and citadel from a boat is actually worth the effort. The river does not offer intimate views - all sites require a walk (or a motorbike ride) to see. We took a driver and car to view the main tomb sites and... More

We did a short boat tour of the Perfume river. It's interesting to see how the people who own boats live off the tourism of taking people on short tours on the river but the sites are very limited.

I was not able to experience the river cruise for lack of time. However, the scenery from afar is great and fantastic.

There is an interesting walking street catering to tourists and locals alike along the south bank of the river right next to the historic Truong Tien bridge. It was a very safe but quite exciting place to visit after dark.

As part of the Citadel tour we embarked on a traditional tour down the 'Perfume river' aptly named after the fragrance from the incense which was burnt by the owners of the boats as they made the journey up and down the river many years ago. A family who lived aboard the craft in which we sailed collected us at... More

Perfume in name only. You can cross the river via three bridges, nothing special there. You could also take a one hour Dragon boat ride on the river, but there is nothing traditional about these boats. Perfume River in Hue, is just a river that divides the city.
