There are two places in Sonargaon – first, the Sonargaon museum and cultural centreand second, the old city of Panam. Both are praiseworthy and worth a visit. Kindly dedicate a full day for the trip. First, drop by the Sonargaon cultural and heritage centre. It is a 3-storey museum which houses all different kinds of historical artefacts of Bangladesh. One... More

If you are in Dhaka city and have time to get away for few hours, you should definitely visit Sonargaon. Approximately an hour drive away (depends on traffic) this is a historical place with beautiful old mansion, a museum, and a library. It was really nice just to walk around the premises that has multiple ponds with water lilies. Less... More

Sonargaon was the old capital of Bengal in the medieval period. It was an important administrative and commercial center of Bengal, and a rich maritime center. Sonargaon was the seat of the medieval Muslim rulers and governors of eastern Bengal. Different rulers from 13th century used Sonargaon as their capital. In different time, Sonargaon was the place to become the... More

I read another review here on tripadvisor that Sonargaon is being restored. If that is true, GO NOW before that happens! There are few things more magical than exploring the crumbling ruins of this former city. We hired a car to take us out here from Dhaka. The drive is pleasant and rural scenery is beautiful. The city itself is amazing... More

Sonargaon is one of the oldest capitals of Bengal. It became the seat of the Hindu Deva Dynasty in the mid-13th century. But this was short-lived, as Hindu rule ended in the early 14th century. Sonargaon was under independent rule for some years, before becoming a subsidiary capital of the Sultanate of Bengal, then the Sultanate of Delhi. The city... More

The place was under renovation and the new paint made the building less appealing and takes away its historical importance. Surprisingly, the place was bustling with people which I didn't like. It was a very hot day and this made me very exhausted. We started the trip with ruins of panam city which was awesome and then entered Sonargaon. the... More

'Sonargaon' was the old capital of Dhaka. It was a historic administrative and commercial center in Bengal. The area is located near the modern industrial river port f Narayanganj in Bangladesh. There is a museum built by Mr. Joinal Abedin. Can visit for short outing.
