This was one of the best experiences of a 3 week visit to SEA! Stopped by 3 times and spoke at length each time with Carol and her husband David(?). We learned about the history and processes as well as projects they are doing. Fascinating stuff! The items in the showroom are exquisite and reasonably priced for what they are.... More

We had been recommended to visit this place by friends and can only recommend it as a interesting educationally silk adventure in the aspects of time, history, making quality products, weaving in practice now a days and all there is to know about the passion of the silk way. We were very lucky to be shown around and was told... More

We arrived just before lunch closing and despite that we're given a very informative tour by the owners explaining the different weaving techniques. The skill and time involved in the whole process certainly justified the prices of their lovely silk textiles.

A brilliant place, where Carol Cassidy has devoted her life to empowering local women through ensuring local weaving traditions are continued and developed: truly a place where art, textiles, empowerment and cultural anthropology come together.

This place by Carol Cassidy is just 3 minutes walk from our hotel, Dhavara Boutique hotel. Monument Books is just opposite. It is opened at 8 am on weekdays and we managed to squeeze abit of time to look at the gorgeous wall hangings and to see the ladies weaving at the back of the building as we were there... More

You can watch how maybe 15 women work on scarfs and other silk products. Nobody pushes you to buy. But because things are extremely beautiful you probably will- and understand that such labor-intensive products cannot be cheap.

Ah! Ah! Ah! One of the most wonderful places at Vientiane! Maybe I'm just a bit like Japanese. I spent few hours just watching the weavers working. How they made the fabrics, and the beautiful, complicated art they were weaving. It just made me so happy observing the process. It was like meditation for me! I loved the experience. It... More

We visited this wonderful silk weaving haven this afternoon. Pong explained the process clearly, she was very helpful and friendly. We learnt so much more about the process and how Carol empowered the Lao women over twenty years. I enjoyed talking to Carol and appreciate what she has done. The art of weaving needs so much patience and accuracy.

This is so much more than a gift shop! When you visit, Carol invites you to see the process of how the silk is designed and woven. We spent so much time mesmerized by the weavers, they are very talented! Watching the creation of these pieces definitely gives you a greater appreciation for this craft. Highly recommend it!

Laos is a very fast developing country. The difference with the neighbor Thailand can be still seen but Laos is catching up very quickly...Banks, Hotels, Shopping Malls slowly filling up the streets. As a result of that, more and more young Laotian prefer to work in air-conditioned environments for better salary and social status as a traditional silk weaver. Carol... More
