I would recommend you to visit this place if you want to know about the history of Laos, but the place isnt maintained at all and not every item has English translation. The entrance fee is 10,000 Kip and if you want to take picture you need to pay another 10,000. Well, it doesnt worth the second 10,000 because more... More

The Lao National History Museum is housed in a huge building (see NHM Veranda photo). Oddly enough, given the long and dramatic history of Laos, its exhibits all fit into only the front half of the building, albeit on both the ground and first floors of it. The information is well-presented, and all—or almost all—items are explained in good detail... More

Entrance fee 10k kip. The museum is not very big, but you can easely spent an hour or two if you read everything. All pictures have English and French translation, but sometimes we saw explanations in Lao language that were not translated.

We went there to see the dinosour bones. It is on the left once u entered the main entrance. Not a huge collection. Being a national museum, we expected more in terms of maintenance and substance. Place seems run down inside and exhibits inside are limited. I find it a pity and feel that the museum being an important venue... More

A very interesting visit but the exhibition was quite poor since there wasn't English text in all stuff but the whole exhibition was bigger than I thought. Also nice information about Laos history anyway. The place didnt have a toilet nor a cafe. This place was quite similar to Havanna's national museuum especially speaking about the layout and display!

The museum was not very stimulating, as the exhibitions were not presented in a good way. But we did learn some interesting things about the History of Laos, so a good place to go if you have nothing better to do.

In a former French Colonial building. Which hadn't been touched up since the French left. It's rustic but interesting. I spent a few hours wandering around this little gem. It's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. At the very least it's a cheap way to get out of the heat for an hour

Stop over in this antiquated building to learn Lao history. Exhibits are sparse, but informative. There are English translations of most exhibits. What is most funny is the Spring-exercise tool which is on the second floor. You'll know what I mean when you read the inscription. Yes, photographs are allowed.

The Lao National History Museum is housed in an old colonial building that used to be the French Governor’s Mansion, built in 1925. Although it has a run-down appearance and needs major renovations and updating, there are several interesting exhibits, such as the Lao ancient Kingdoms, ethnic people and culture. The display featuring the Plain of Jars was very interesting.... More

A poorly funded museum that goes a long way to explain the ancient and modern history of the country. Well worth a 2-hour visit - they close 12-2 but your 20,000 Kip ticket will allow you back in the afternoon. And for those who complain about the paucity of the displays, just thank goodness that you'll be coming from a... More
