This town hall built in the mid-19th Century was built in the Venetian Gothic Revival style then popular with British Colonials. Mumbai has many such examples. The main characteristic are the large Gothic revival windows on the second floor. There is a similar building in Galle. The town hall is now somewhat swamped by the market and surrounding commercial district... More

The inside was closed and when you go into the outdoor section you get followed by people who will give you information- of course they want a tip a the end for their services - but you do not really have a choice to not have them. The artifacts that are outside are really neat to see. So strange but... More

A lovely place to visit though the city's forefathers need to do more to restore the place and the belfry in close proximity to it (the Kayman's Gate) and preserve their historical importance. Was intrigued to see the things from centuries ago that are housed at this location.

I had read mixed reviews of this building but decided to venture in to see for myself. I was escorted up the stairs by one 'unoifficial' guide and duly handed over my Rs100 only to find that I was being 'handed over' to another 'unofficial' guide for another Rs100. Ten minutes later, mid wandering around, another 'unofficial' guide turns up... More

The building is still in use for municipal purposes and is not readily available for a look inside. What can be seen suggests it is in need of renovation. The collection of old municipal vehicles and equipment below the building is interesting but deteriorating badly.

Located in the busy market Of Pettah, The town Hall museum is definitely one of the best places to visit in your day tour of Colombo. The history encompassing the museum goes back to a hundred years, relics are preserved in great style and renovation is also done quite often. Enjoyable experience there. Don't forget to grab a king coconut next... More

It must have looked nice at one time. Now it is only old and neglected. The fire trucks are parked in the front and I guess it is used as a station. There is a museum inside which we did not visit.

The markets in the surrounding area are more interesting. Be aware of the guy hanging around at the front door, forcing you to pay him for a tour.

Dutch building at the end of Main Street in Pettah. Inside it is a creepy museum of life-size dolls a replica of a council meeting in 1906.
