Mount Lavinia Beach is located just out of the Colombo city. This beach strip has a lot to offer for the locals as well as the tourists visiting Colombo. Along the beach there are many nice restaurants pubs as well as relaxing areas. As a tourist who is visiting Colombo, Mount Lavinia Beach is a must visit. The weekends could be crowded with locals though, during the week it is relaxing and peaceful. If you would relax at a pool overlooking the ocean or the sunset, The Mount Lavinia Hotel terrace is recommended. You can use the Mount Lavinia Hotel pool for an affordable fee.

Enjoyed walking up and down the beach while we stayed in Mr. Lavinia Hotel. Quite interesting to see the change from the hotel to the local beach occupied by fisherman's boats. You can do quite a long walk south of Mr. Lavinia Hotel.

Not quite a beach as there is more grass and weed than sand. It's a bit messy, too. Although, it is a fine spot to admire the sunset and have something local to eat.

Very nice beach. Lots of small places to buy a beer, a plate full of fruit or a nice dish of local food. Been there twice, on Independence day. Busy but not overcrowded. The day after that was even quieter with free sunbeds and lots...More

I had dinner on the beach at the sort-of hide-away restaurant. I ordered appetizers (delicious) and fresh crab (very disappointing). They were out of large crab so I ordered two medium size live crabs which I personally selected. However, when they arrived on my dinner...More

I don't think this is the best place for surf lessons - the beach gets very congested most evenings as well as on the weekends or holidays - further down south to unavatuna or mirissa is where I would recommend you go for... More
