A friend and I recently enjoyed the Istanbul Immersion: the Asian Side walk with docent Claire Karaz. Claire is American, but has lived in Turkey for over 20 years and gave us a wonderful insight into the culture of Istanbul. With her art history background, her wealth of knowledge was incredible. She was very pleasant to be with and we... More

I love food tours and do them in every city I go to. The Context Travel Beyond Baklava tour was what really got my attention when looking at the Istanbul offerings because come on a dessert food tour?!? We were met by a guide who was very passionate about the subject and we felt very much at ease throughout the... More

My husband and I did five walking tours with Context Travel in Istanbul - Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Istanbul Immersion - the Asian Side, Ottoman Architecture: Istanbul's Magnificent Mosques, and Galata Nights. We did three of these with the same guide, Nur, and we enjoyed getting to know her over the course of our trip. All the guides (Ebru, Kutlughan,... More

My wife and I and friends from our Cruise ship Prinsendam had an excellent tour of Istanbul's historic Diplomatic District near the Pera Palace Hotel. Our guide Kutlughan Soyubol is a PhD candidate of the Turkish modern era at CUNY in NYC. Obviously his English is excellent and his knowledge of Istanbul's history is exceptional. We had an enjoyable coffee... More

We had three separate tours with Context Travel guides and all were exceptional! The guides were highly educated, friendly, informative, and provided so many insights into Istanbul and Turkey. Highly recommend. We also used Context concierge services for transfer services from IST airport to hotels. Very professional and great service.

I had an excellent experience on the private two hour Beyond Baklava: A Tour of Turkish Treats tour with guide Hulya. I am a pastry chef and very interested in baking and pastry around the world. Spending time with Hulya taught me so much about Turkish cuisine and baking. The pace of the tour was excellent. We tried many sweet... More

we have used contact travel several times in different cities and have always found the guides knowledgable and the tours well organized. the topkapi palace is very crowded but we felt our guide did a very good job of giving us information away from the crowd and then walking through the areas discussed

Due to our timing we were only able to book private tours with Context. We chose the Market Spice Tour and the Topkapi tour on consecutive days. Thoroughly enjoyed both tours and they proved to be well worth the money. Our guides, Aylin and Reyan were extremely knowledgeable in their respective fields and provided a wealth of information we would... More

I have previously used Context Travel in Madrid and Barcelona and found they brought a breadth of knowledge to the topics covered and we left better able to appreciate and understand the destinations. So as soon as I knew I was coming to Istanbul, I booked three of their tours i) Topkapi Palace ii) Ottoman Architecture: Istanbul's Magnificient Mosques and... More

Very great tours, although it's super annoying that if you don't have at least 3 people in the tour, it either doesn't happen or you have to pay extra. If you're on a long holiday and you're booking multiple tours and this happens, it's annoying. Other than that, I would definitely say that this is the way to see various... More

Staying in Sisli

Neighbourhood Profile
Sisli
For much of Istanbul’s history, Sisli and the area just north of Taksim Square were open countryside used mostly as hunting grounds. These days, Sisli and its chic streets are considered the very heart of contemporary Istanbuli life, where an epicenter of fashion and a thriving business district meet to create an expressly “downtown” feel. Though largely a residential neighborhood, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and upscale shops abound with many of them situated inside or nearby Cevahir Istanbul, the biggest shopping mall in Europe and second biggest urban shopping mall in the world. Shopaholics and fashionistas travel from near and far to browse the area's mix of major global brand items and creations by popular Turkish designers.
