Make sure you pack the walking shoes and spend hours getting lost in this area. The Grand Bazaar, walking to Hagia and Blue Mosque are an incredible journey around here. Be sure to try the local treats, as there are plenty.

It has got everything. The architecture, the history, the culture, cosmopolitan, location...lovely. Not easy to finish them all in one day but one can do the palace, both bazaars, aya sophia and blue mosque in one day but just quickly.

It is a must see for all tourists and because of the locacion you get to see the best of Istanbul all in one place. You have Topkapi Palace, Hagoa Sofía and Basílica Cisterna in the same area. Although it might seem a bit expensive, there are museum passes that you can buy from 1 to 5 days that can... More

We took Royal princess day shore excursion. Istanbul is very fascinating city, We drove around many historical building sand Landmarks crossing the bridge in Asian and European sites. Visiting the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia and ending at the Grand Bazaar. A delightful city to explore, hopefully they keep safe for the tourist.

Beyoglu is besides Sultanahmet the best area to go. A peculiar mix of EUropean and Turkish (Ottoman) influences can be felt here, and you should certainly not forget the small streets on any of your left or right. You will discover many treasures and you will feel safe anywhere you go (despite some unfortunate attacks on Istiklal)

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
