The Other Tour offers unique one day cultural experiences in Istanbul. Our mission is to provide curious, open minded travelers with the opportunity to discover how Turkish people live and thrive in Istanbul. Away from typical tourist attractions, we dive deep into Istanbul (a city of over 16 million people) to immerse ourselves in the lives of local residents. During this guided adventure our Turkish neighbors open their hearts and homes to us, sharing with us their customs and traditions.

This is the perfect tour for anyone with an open mind and desire to see and experience something beyond what's in your guidebook. It certainly lives up to its name - Fethi's passion for his home town is contagious, and not dampened by a healthy dose of irreverence. Embrace this and you will undoubtedly enjoy yourself - it's an enlightening... More

Major disappointment. All negative approach to showing their city. Half of what was promised was delivered. We were left alone with the guy's mother without any comments, for a long period (30-40 min) who didn't speak English. Had we been told that she spoke some German, would have been helpful. Starring at each other made the time seem v-e-r-y long.... More

If you want to see something more and something different than the normal tourist route, this is the tour for you! Highlights were visiting a school and lunch at the guides mothers house. Personal and interesting tour that ended on a beautiful rooftop terrace. (Visit was november 2014)

booked tour for our first full day in Istanbul as a way to get us up to speed with the local character and feel of the city. Both my wife and daughter agree that it was a perfect way for us to boost our comfort level. Fethi met us and one other person and proceeded to take us around the... More

We did The Other Tour with Fethi in December. My cousins strongly recommended it to us when we told them we were going to Istanbul. They loved it, and we did, too. It is not so much a tour as an experience. There was no traditional sightseeing but rather a trip all around the city, to residential neighborhoods on the... More

I did 'The Other Tour' a while back with a dear friend of mine who knows a great deal about Istanbul and due to that didn't want to see the regular stuff but go off to discover other things, everyday things that are not as easy to discover. And we learned that day that this tour is the best Adress... More

I just got back from Istanbul, and am digesting my day with Fethi last week. I really don't know what to say or how to describe it. It was certainly one of my most memorable days in recent memory. I wouldn't call what we did a "tour" in the traditional sense. It turned out to be just me and Fethi,... More

This tour literally blew my mind. Me and my girlfriends went on a trip to southern Europe in the summer and when we arrived in Istanbul ( it was our first stop) we felt like we needed help to really see this overwhelmingly huge city. We heard of "The Other Tour" through a friend, called him up and the next... More

I joined the tour with my daughter that had just moved to Istanbul for a semester abroad. I was only there for a little while so we thought, lets try to get an idea of the city that lays beyond the city walls. This tour is especially good for after you saw what everybody gets to see. The Hagia Sophia... More

I joined "The Other Tour" in July and just had to share my experience on this wonderful tour with you! The group consisted of me, five other people, Fethi and his girlfriend. I immediately felt at ease with them and travelling alone, that is such an important thing to be able to feel free and not awkward in a strange... More

Staying in Besiktas

Neighbourhood Profile
Besiktas
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighbourhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
