We booked several wonderful tours from our guide Kemal Malgaz. We started with the free walking tour in the morning and continued with a nice Bosporus boot tour in the afternoon. The next day we had a nice personal tour through Hagia Sofia mosque and the Topkapi palace. Kemal was very knowledgable, friendly and pointed the best picture spots out... More

The free walking tour by Kemal was a waste of time. In 2,5 hours we moved in a radius of 500 m and all information we were provided with was a promotion of the other paid tours the guide led (constantly trying to persuade us to do it!) and so little and useless information on the sights and about the... We travel with walking tours all over. in our last trip we had one in Malmo Sweden and then one in Copenhagen a week later (which we liked a lot) and then on the next day in Istanbul. The difference between the tour in Istanbul to all the others we had before is that the guide was a professional one,... More

Very informative and nice tour-best way to start getting to know Istanbul´s history and culture! Our guide Yasar spoke very good english and was extremely nice and helpful, also for practical things that went beyond the tour. Definily recommended!

The man was really nice, he explained everything in a good Spanish, looks he have read a lot of the history and he was able to answer every kind of questions we made him. Also he recommended a Turkish... More

Kemal, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Took an hour longer than he needed to and seemed content to give us the time we needed to understand and enjoy everything. cant recommend him enough tour was amazing, the guide was very fluent in English, which is very rare in guides in turkey. the duration of the tour was, literally,... The tour is okay and you see some nice sights, but stuff you can do on your own quite easily. Don't fall for the boat tour, he implied he would be sat with us but instead we were on a busy, big boat listening to a tannoy the whole way. Not worth the money (15€)

I'm a big fan of the free walking tours, so of course I also joined the one in Istanbul. Our Tour Guide Yasar was very nice and did the tour even it was only 3 of us (minimum of 5-6 required for the tour)... He offered to do the tour with entering the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque and we... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
