If you are visiting for the first time and want to do all the historic sites as well as the grand bazaar this is the area to stay. There are good tram links to other areas and I felt very safe throughout my stay. The are is clean and well patrolled and the streets are always busy.

The heart of Istanbul's historic peninsula, the Sultanahmet district is steeped in an old-world nostalgia straight from the pages of history. The erstwhile centre of the Byzantine Empire, Sultanahmet derives its name from Emperor Sultan Ahmet I, an illustrious ruler who commissioned construction of the beautiful Blue Mosque. Today, the area is famous for a distinct architecture, the confluence of... More

this is where you want to be when you are in Istanbul. Most of the major sights are here and the streets are always crowded. If you are looking for shops walk a lillte bit to the Grand Bazaar. Good restaurants but sonme tend to charge to much

Wonderful area. Full of life. Topkapi palace, Hagia Sophia, Blu mosque, Hipodrome basilica cistern all are within this district. The old mosque near its gate is also... More

It is the charming old city of Istanbul, that provides the scenes of the historical mosques and buildings with the beautiful narrow roads motivate you to keep walking and exploring the city on foot all the day long. It is a well-served area by all you need like transportations, restaurants, grocery, souvenir shops and more.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
