Taksim Square is just a square, but abuzz with all kinds of city sounds 24/7. Here you'll find people from all over the world, walking the town, trying to get in as much of Istanbul as they can. It is lined with cafes and restaurants and in the centre sits the famous Freedom Monument. Here is the mouth to the... More

Istanbul is stunning, Taksim Square is not. it is a busy bus and traffic hub and lies at the end of the wonderful Istiklal Caddesi but there is little or nothing to recommend it really as there are far prettier parts of the city to visit. I don't have too many critical things to say to be honest, it is... More

It worth to see this walked way area, the monument and taking a photo. Seeding pigeons, eating some simit, oak, or grilled corn...

You can not practically reach close to Taksim Square nowadays. Looks like there is a a police logistics center underneath it. Traffic of big "panzer"s or "toma"s is a must see especially after sunset when Taksim wakes up and ready for the party.

No special reason to go there. Local transport hub, restaurant like in other places not necessarily beter or cheaper than in historic centre. Nowhere to sit down in the square.

Nice place for a night stroll. You don't have to worry about getting hungry as there are many eateries and they're open till around 10-1030pm. Taksim square can get very crowded. Since pickpockets are often around crowded areas, do be wary of your surroundings.

mmm... I dont really know why it is famous. But may be because it leads to Istiklal street just the most famous street in Istanbul. The square has the metro station the famous simit sellers and chest nuts kiosks...thats it. The istiklal street has THE action!

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
