Ephesus was good, but not as good as Aphrodisias. We went at 8am in winter, and it was empty! But crowds started to pour in at around 9.30 - 10. So, go early!

I recommend you not to go there directly and take a guide who tries to be guide of the random people. I can recommend you to book a guided tour from jollytur or even on tripadvisor !

I don't know about the boat, but you can actually book a rental car online. Do a google search and you will find many rental offers.
