This church has many sections representing many variants of Christianity. This location is one of the locations thought to be the site of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. It is very difficult to imagine the events with so much religious monuments and ceremony occurring...More

We had a wonderful guide for half a day through the old city in Jerusalem. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was a wondrous walk through history for anyone of any religion. In one magnificent structure, you can see Orthodox, Catholics, Coptics all worshipping. The...More

You must go here for the experience, if not the site itself. Just a fascinating church. Read up beforehand, as there as several things to see, and it's easy to miss one or two if you aren't on the lookout.

I visited the Church for the first time in 1972. Its condition was miserable. It needed serious cleaning and maintenance. Glad to report that a lot has been done in the last few years and the renovation is continuing. It is shared by three Christian...More

Modest clothing is required. No shorts allowed - even for kids. Can be really crowded with long lines.

I can't tell you if this is where Jesus was buried or not, but that seems beyond the point for the pilgrims (or just plain tourists) who push and shove their way in and up the stairs. The scene was one of bedlam - certainly...More

A great place to visit . I do believe this is the site of the crucifixion and resurrection despite the ongoing debate . Somewhat hectic , almost overwhelming in its holiness one cannot help but be slightly dizzy upon visiting . In august the heat...More

Treated by all and sundry as a "must see" - a tick on the list. As a museum it's impressive; as a church it's had the spiritual stuffing knocked out of it. Paid guides talk at normal volume or louder, followed by their swarms; people...More

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a holy place for Christians but contains a lot of history for all of us. To get the most out of the visit you need a tour guide to explain everything to you. I don't know if the...More

It is a must see, no second thought about. You cannot describe with words the experience of getting inside this holy place. Try to come here early in the morning before a main flood of tourist buses arrives. Then there will be no or very...More

I don't think you can stay in the church itself. There is plenty of accommodation around there although I suggest staying outside the old city.

Has anyone been here for Catholic Easter? If so, how early would you suggest arriving at the church for the service? Thank you.

I would have the reasonable caution you would have in any city, but I didn't feel especially vulnerable in the old city either. Lots of people, lots of soldiers and police around. The Sepulchre is pretty popular itself, so... More
