The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, or the Church of the Resurrection by Eastern Christians, is a church within the Christian Quarter of the walled Old City of Jerusalem. It is a few steps away from the Muristan.

The site is venerated as Golgotha (the Hill of Calvary), where Jesus was crucified, and is said also to contain the place where Jesus was buried (the Sepulchre). A trend among visitors to the spot (standing outside the Church) is to applaud loudly during the ringing of bells. This is to recognize the unique beauty of the Church and its unique history.

At the end of the Via Dolorosa

A busy location, but worth the walk and the wait. Incredible opportunity to enter what is believed to be Christ's tomb.

The devout, the blind and the misinformed flock here to see Yeshua's tomb assuming he was buried here. Little do they know that he is actually buried in Kashmir where he died at the ripe old age of 80+ The rest of the church is ancient and interesting.

On tour with Noah. Very little time so only saw overview. Our excellent guide, Henry, explained some important details. In the above picture is the stone on which Jesus was supposed to have been laid and pilgrims must touch.

as often this type of site disappoints and consists of artifacts behind glass. Not in this case. You are able to reach down and touch the rock on which the crucifix was stood and then touch the slab on which His body was prepared for burial. Lots of people there but the line didn't take that long. This is an... More

These places are good to visit but I'm not much on visiting all the churches with the pomp and circumstance of the supposed places that someone determined at some date in time. Enjoyed going there but when you know the bible it would bring in to question the authenticity of the place. See garden tomb and compare and you'll see... More

Yes, supposedly this is the burial place of JC. There will be a LOT of people here. My recommendation is to go after 4pm and not on weekends.

No visit to the Old City would be complete without a visit to Christ's Tomb. Be prepared for long lines during the day. Best time would be early in the morning when the Church opens.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre often has long queues, but when we visited in December,we were able to entry without any delay. The church felt like a human beehive, wall to wall with pilgrims and tourists. It has no natural lighting and the only source of light comes from hundreds of candles lit by the faithful. Visibility is poor and the floor... More

I have visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre during my tour to Jerusalem from Cairo it was a very intensive tour and we managed to see a lot in one day. But if you plan the tour to the holy places of Jerusalem it's better to dedicate a whole day to it. The church – a huge draw for... More
