According to the sign the ramparts walk was open but the gate was closed and the ticket booth deserted. Nobody seemed to know when it would be open. There is a fee for entry

Not many people come up here so it's relatively peaceful. There is signage along the way to explain the various buildings as you walk by.

As if as in the ancient times, you get to actually walk on the walls as if you were a guard of Jerusalem. Obviously, Jerusalem had long spread outside the Old City walls, but guards used to walk here to guard the city. While walking...More

Well worth taking a few hours to walk along the walls of the old city. There are two sections and both are worth taking.

The views from the Ramparts are amazing. There are lots of stairs - up and down at various points - but if you are physically able this is an experience you will never forget.

My husband and I were in Jerusalem as part of a tour group. We had an afternoon free and chose to spend part of it doing the Ramparts Walk. We purchased our tickets - which are very reasonably priced at approx. 18 shekels each -...More

Both TA reviews and hard copy guide books recommended the ramparts walk. I don't agree at all. I think that if you have walked in the Old City for 10 minutes even, the ramparts walk will add nothing . I didn't think that the elevated...More

Jerusalem's walls were built at the command of the Ottoman emperor Suleiman the Magnificent in 1535, over 400 years ago. The walls are still there. You can walk from the Jaffa Gate, near the Armenian Quarter on the northern or southern route, take your pick,...More

I visited the ramparts walk but unfortunately hadn't had chance to make the entire walk. It seems interesting and definitely worth it, especially in the last stretch near Damascus Gate. The walk has two sections so do not miss them.

This is a simple walk but loaded with history. We would suggest a guide if this would be your first time to see the city from the Ramparts. Bring water when warm outside and feel free to take lots of pictures.

YES - we used the ticket to go North one day and then South the NEXT day... just confirm with the ticket agent when you buy it how long it is good for but you may definitely do it on different days. It is tiring enough that... More
