It is a nice area to shop and set in some restaurants and cafes. It is a crowded area with locals and tourists. In the summer it is quiet hot, so I recommend you to go in the afternoon or night.

Even Hamra is situated in a Western Beirut that is a Muslim area it doesn't look as a Muslim district at all. I should say that Hamra is a real face of the city where all the cultures have mixed and something extraordinary has appeared. It is not an easy place both to stay in or to walk: too many... More

This is a superb area for bars and restaurants. It is a cosmopolitan, multi faith district that has a great atmosphere

The Hamra area of west Beirut still shows evidence of the war in buildings that are just shells. While the shopping strip of Hamra Street is great the area is awash with beggars and this does lower the tone of the area.

Previously the coolest boulevard in the Middle East, now rather run down with questionable shops and a lot of beggars and some Syrian shops.

Great place to walk around and get a flavour of the city. Something for everyone and at all price points. Try walking as that's the way to find the hidden spots and the charm.

Lots of history and full of culture and educational buildings/schools and shopping. A very trendy and busy place...but it's the historical aspect that really moves you here.

To me Hamra is an overview of Lebanon in terms of everything, you can find Muslims, Christians, atheist, burger, hummus and even of course sushi. the bars, the pubs, the best universities in the regional AUB and LAU. shopping, banks, business, churches and mosques: this is Lebanon. enjoy Hamra and make sure you eat a manoushe from Faisal (bliss street)... Hamra street still had a character, but anyone can feel that it is depressed like the whole country. Some me stores have opened, but many are shutdown. The bustling of Hamra is not there. Led people roam the area, and all the cultural landmarks are gone from the street. The only thing left from the old days is Antoine Library.... More
