Relaxing sunset on the top are magical moments, you will never forget them, we spent the night in a very nice place, "Arabian Oryx Camp", the owner is a top interesting guy, very polite, very smart and our guide "Malek" is super super super, the best guide we had ever, we booked with a local company named "smart travel and... Went there for the desert tour and had done Sand Dune Bashing which is an amazing exerience. Watch the sunset in the desert is just a totally different experience. It is quite far from Muscat about 3 hours drive so you would need to leaver early in the morning to have enough time if you want to do it in... More

This desert is amazing. It is reachable from major city (around 200 km from Muscat). it has many amenities and accomodation that ensure our travelling was enjoyable. The local was courteous and friendly. Many activities that fill up the time there and absolutely dune bashing.

It was my first dessert experience and I was left in awe. It was a one-day tour and was arranged by The Xcite tours with other groups (mostly families) with us. It was almost a 3 hour Coaster journey from Burj as Sahwa to Bidiya in Al Sharqiya. We left around 3:30pm and we were JUST in time to see... More

As my driver and I were entering the Wahiba Sands in the afternoon, a gathering of men surrounding a camel caught our attention, so we went over to find out what was going on. They were preparing to load a camel into the bed of a small pickup truck. My driver thought that the camel was sick, but it was... More

Visited the desert for the first time since moving to muscat 2 years ago. Was easily reached and not to difficult to drive through if you want a taste of the desert. We drove by some of the camps you can stay overnight in and I have to say quite a view of them are in a shockingly bad condition.... More

I am not really a fan of motorized dune vehicle trips - rather prefer to experience the solitude of the huge sand dunes without the crazy antiks of the dune drivers - but I have to admit that it was impressive how our driver was able to ascend steep sand dunes and even more so to descend them with our... We didn't really see anything of the bedouin culture but the desert was beautiful. The camp could have been anywhere but the "tents" were fine. I think maybe could be done to make the experience more authentic.

We recently visited the Wahiba Sands and stayed the night at the1000 Nights Camp. It was simply a wonderful experience! The 45 km trip across the desert to reach your destination is a thrilling adventure of dune bashing and camels! The camp is basic in a rustic and authentic way, clean and well laid out, with a small pool to... More

You drive out on flat desert to get here and gradually a camp of white tents appears. The Sri Lankan staff ( we have yet to see one single Omani working in any of the hotels or restaurants we have been to) were very gracious and helpful at reception. Our tent does have a tent roof but the walls are... More
