Went here for a quick look around and have to say wasn't overly impressed. It was fairly quite and there was nothing magical / enchanting - all seemed rather fake and a tourist trap kind of area. Worth a quick look if you have time.

Like any other market, the place is busy and sells pretty much the same thing from shops to shops. We had a great time and bought a few nice souvenirs. Perhaps we paid slightly more but we like them and I would definitely recommend if you like your costume jewellery or little bits of silver. There are bargains to be... More

Just like every other market or souk in the world. Overcrowded with tourists selling goods made primarily in China and India, sold by Indian merchants at overinflated prices. For souvenir shopping I suppose it's okay, so long as you don't expect to find any luxury or fine goods or crafts made locally.

Hardly changed in the last 25 years since our first visit , this is true Omani culture for browsers and buyers . You don't get hassled - no-means no , and is never resented , and if you wish to inspect but don't buy there is no grief. Check out the gold souk and spend a happy hour or two... More

My sister and I went to the souq to buy gifts for our family. We were able to buy fridge magnets, scarf, clothes, bags, local perfumes, bakhour and even silver and gold items at a price much cheaper than those at the mall or the duty free. Just make sure to wear comfortable footwear. You also need to use your... More

Before you go there> souk is open till 13:00 and again from 16:00. When I compared this souk with souk in Dubai, or Kapali Carsi in Istanbul, I was a little bit dissapointed. From reviews that I read before my trip to Oman, I tought it would be something great. Last authentic bazaar.....but, no. Same offers of pashmina, some oud... More

Nothing was special about it. Just a lot of shops that sell cheap stuff like souvenirs with very bad quality.

The place to go when you want to do some haggling. Make sure you don't get trashed in, haggle haggle haggle. Best approached you don't really want to buy anything.

Located opposite to the bay, this Souk allows you to travel back in time and shop the arabic way. They have anything and everything, are mostly not agressive in trying to sell you anything but make sure to bargain to at least 50% of the original price. It's closed between 13.00 and 16.00 and parking nearby can be a challenge.
