Its nice to see this preserved. The attendant let us in and showed us around, spoke of earlier glory and told us of the 4 remaining families from what must have been a larger population earlier.

The only synagogue in Yangon, with a tiny congregation, the struggle of one family to keep it going is very moving. Also delightful to see the ecumenical approach of the locals helping, from all the other faiths.

I just wandered in, there was no one around, I think it may have been closed. It is very close to Thingyan. A sign said it was closed on Sundays. It was a lovely break from the heat and the hectic street. The have a guest book you can sign and some info on their history here.

The synagogue is close to the busy street market on 26th St, so the visit can be combined with seeing downtown street life and Scot's Market. We knew the synagogue would be closed in the evening, but did manage some photos and a talk with the local guard.

In the middle of a busy and loud market street, you'll find this piece of history reflection of a splendorous Jewish Community, now reduced to a handful of families...

We were fortunate to have the Rabbi's daughter give us a tour and explanation of the Synagogue. Her father recently passed away. There once was a thriving Jewish Community in Yangon- but now only about 20 people remain there. Be sure to visit this on your own or with your guide when touring Yangon. They are only open at certain... More

The only synagogue in Myanmar is kept in pristine conditions from the time it was built. It is currently being renovated after the cyclone damaged the roof. It is open every day until 2pm so make sure you get there before.

The Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue is well worth a visit, Jewish or not. It speaks to the diverse, cosmopolitan past of Yangon when it had a sizable, well-to-do a Jewish community originally from Iraq.
