Its amazing to see her house, and how much things and traffic has increased since the films and documentaries we have seen from the past. In only one year the traffic is out of this world

Well it was just a pilgrimage to pay silent hommage to "The Lady". There was not much to see except banners for the democratyic party, photos of her and her late father and a lot of barbed wire along the walls - difficult to know whether it was to keep her in or others out.

Don't get too excited, whilst this building has a unique place in Myanmar history you can only see the perimeter wall from the road or a distant view across the lake. The bit that made us smile was that Aunty Soo used her Nobel Peace prize money to build the wall to keep out the police and press. Now that's irony.

Not much to see, just a wall and gate but most guides stop here for a photo opportunity. In an upmarket part of town with lots of embassies nearby.

Just a huge wall where there are now opposition flags flying high. If you are in the area, see it, but don't go out of your way as you won't see much!

Although lots of folks on the tour were excited to go there - I found it a bit of a waste of time. It is a very luxurious compound with a very high wall round it and razor wire. You don't see that much. Must admit "house arrest" in the vast "palace" backing onto a lake is a bit "hollow" to me. Especially as her neighbours are all generals!! Went there to say I'd done it - wouldn't go back.

A modern high brick wall now hides the Lady's house and one cannot see inside. Best to go to the other side of the lake where there is a wonderful view.

You only pass in front of the gate and the wall surrounding the house. Since it is a private residence, there is no entry to house but the barbed wire on the top of the wall appears to be in pristine condition!

Should the government continue towards a change to a more democratic and free Myanmar, this site will become an important historical sight. Daw Suu Kyi spent the better part of 20 years in and out of house arrest. Currently you can only view from a distance, and when I was there a military (may have been police) presence still existed at the exterior walls. The compound is surrounded by high fences made of concrete and topped with multiple layers of razor wire. It was very interesting dealing with locals and how they express themselves about their feelings for her. We travelled on a guided tour by a non-government affiliated company and the guides were outstanding. Our guide in Yangon was an extremely bright young lady who clearly seemed excited about the changes in progress. Her, along with many other locals simply referred to her as "The Lady" almost revering her as someone who is superior among the Burmese. An incredible outsider sociological viewpoint that is hard to explain in a short review.

You can only drive past the house - you cannot go in (naturally!), so in reality you can just see the front gate.
