This cemetery is beautiful. The tributes on each gravestone, the ages of the young men who lost their lives and the walls and walls of names left me feeling very humbled and sad. How I wish we could find a way to resolve conflict through dialogue and understanding. Visit Taukkyan - you will be moved.

The cemetery is on the city fringe and in traffic will take over an hour to reach. However it is worth it. The cemetery is immaculately maintained (in contrast to much in Myanmar) and is a restful haven from the traffic and bustle of Yangon. There are over 6000 graves, mostly British, Indian and Gurkha, including some un-named. It's quite... More

It is well worth taking the time to visit the Taukkyan War Cemetery and this can be done very cheaply without taking an organised tour. We went by local taxi having negotiated a fee of 10,000 MMK per hour with our taxi driver from our hotel. Taukkyan is located approximately 11 kms past Yangon Airport and whilst this may not... Place doesn't worth it to go exclusively to visit from the city as it is kind of far. I got really surprised it got to 2nd attraction in yangon!

This was a very peaceful place which respectfully showed the waste of life attributable to war. It is beautifully maintained with marked graves and memorials to those who were cremated. An appropriate memorial to those who made the supreme sacrifice.

Worth a stop. Study the tombstones for a useful understanding of who fought the war for the British.

I have read reviews by others whose visits were spoilt by the Burmese people disrespecting this memorial to the fallen by treating it as a party place, for kids to run around, make noise, have picnics. When we were there this was not happening at all and our guide told us the people had been told it was forbidden -... More
