My wife and I visited the Namdaemun Market twice because we found the place so fascinating. The atmosphere there is very similar to the London markets like Camden Market where a wide variety of goods are sold like clothings, jackets , shoes, toys and spectacles on the several streets which make up this market place. In addition, there are many... More

This place has everything you need from souvenirs to household goods, bags, clothing, accessories and plenty of food to keep your stomach full. Prices are reasonable compared to the underground shopping but you can get better prices by going inside to the shopping malls. I find the outside stalls prey on the tourists by saying no discount or has a... More

Should visit once, no need to repeat. Gwangjang market is a way better option to see more local Korean food and stuff to see

Anything you want you can get here and more. Our hotel was close by so we went every day just to people watch. Enjoy and bring small bills.

If you walk into the market through gate 2 and walk almost all the way through, just before you get to the subway entrance #5 (which will be on your left) this dumpling shop will be on your right. There will likely be a "to go" line out front. Main floor is making the dumplings- push by and go upstairs,... More

This is a great place to stroll through just to see everything that's offered! Best value is the street food. Our favorite was the sweet pancake - so good!

Want to experience the Korean shopping culture, then Namdaemun is a popular place to go. Prices are reasonable, the food is great and plentiful, and you can find most everything there. There is alleyway upon alleyway of shops and local vendors. Bartering is a must; however, some vendors are set with their prices so don't expect to get a "third-world"... More

Staying in Myeongdong / Namdaemun

Neighbourhood Profile
Myeongdong / Namdaemun
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighbourhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy. Lotte and Shinsaegae’s massive department stores are also popular draws for both Korean and luxury products. The department stores, just like Myeongdong’s streets, are crowded around the clock. Myeongdong’s many street food carts are also immensely popular for their inexpensive and quirky offerings (French-fry-encrusted corn dogs, anyone?). The neighbourhood’s popularity, as well as its close proximity to other popular sights and neighbourhoods, makes it one of Seoul’s most popular places to stay.
