Short stay, long stay, single, sharing, or with kids GO FOR ZAMALEK!! Sounds slightly biased? Ok maybe, but all for good reason. It is charming, you can actually walk in the streets, full of vibrant life with restaurants, art galleries, yoga studios, bars, cafes, hairdressers, and night life spots... Whatever new thing you are looking for, it is more likely... More

Zamalek or The Island is a perfect part of cairo to hang out at night and it's extremely safe! Many choices from restaurants to nightlife... It's very foreigner friendly and very safe! I love the view in any direction as the Nile river literally surrounds it... It's just beautiful and make sure you have a map cuz I still get... More

I lived here and there are many good shops and places to walk if you are staying for a while. however if a normal tourist, trust me you do not have to visit here, you have limited time and so much to see that you cannot afford to waste time here. walking across the busy streets is not for the... A real upmarket experience in centre of Cairo. Some fabulous restaurants, shops and cafes. Definitely a place to walk around and marvel at some of the buildings that wouldn't look amiss in Paris. It all felt very safe and is a place where you will see many of the beautiful people of Cairo hanging out.

I love zamalek - it's cosmopolitan. Coffee shop called 'cake' down a side a street just past the marriott is worth a visit. There roof top bars which afford great nile views. Friday brunch at the intercon is excellent value for money (1-5pm i think). Cocktails at the fairmont hotel is a real treat. The opera is a lovely place... More

Our hotel was located here, and it is a very nice area to be in. It feels safer, has less traffic, is a little cleaner, and definitely quieter than the rest of the city around it. There are also many nice restaurants on the island. I'd recommend making this your home base if possible, but if you staying elsewhere, I'm... More

The island is home to a real variety of architecture & local life, read up about it before you go & get the benefits of a stroll around, from the Opera to the corniche, to the fantastic array of restaurants, much friendlier & funkier than the downtown area. Ideal if you stay at the Cairo Marriott as everything is within... More

This review is quite late. The Zamalek Area is located in Gezira Island which is a favorite destination for tourists. The attractions you can find here include The Cairo Tower, Opera House & Art Museum, and Gezira Gardens, among others. We took a taxi from the hotel to the Cairo Tower where we enjoyed the panoramic view of Nile River... More
