Dating back to the 6th Dynasty (2323-2150 BC), this is the largeset tomb complex in Saqqara housing the remains of Mereruka (vizier to King Teti I), magnificent wall paintings, a stone ring for tethering sacrificial animals and a life-size statue of Mereruka walking forward from a false door.

Reliefs of daily life were excellent in Idut's tomb

We went into Idut's tomb to see the same reliefs that others have described below. Perhaps Idut's tomb was part of the Mastaba of Mereruka - the guide did mention a visit to that mastaba - but the sign on the door only said "Idut's Tomb". This tomb was located close (walking distance) to Zoser 's step pyramid and the... More

I had actually visited the Mastaba of Kagemni and not the Mastaba of Mereruka, both are next to each other only Mereruka is always locked and one needs to pay an entry fees while Kagemni is having free entry. Our guide told us both are almost similar and we should save the entry fees by going to Kagemni. The tomb... More

The reliefs in this tomb are really fascinating in the amount of detail they show. Some of my favorites were hippopotamus hunt and the marshes. We were lucky enough to have a guide who could explain their meanings and point out other small details we probably would have missed. This tomb is easy to navigate, no stooping or bending as... The Tombs are beautiful. You can walk into them without crawling to it. Local guy who charges you to take photos is annoying but he didn't bother us much. Quick 10LE and he was gone. Some of the best and most colorful hieroglyphics in North Egypt

Visited: 2nd April 2016. I have been to Egypt 5 times over the last 31 years and this was my first visit here and I feel like I have missed out previously. This is typically combined with the trip to Saqqara's step pyramid. You want a guide for this: mainly so that you appreciate the story that is told via... More

Another cool tomb to see with cool hieroglyphs. Take the time to see it and take some good photos. One of the local "guides" will want a tip for showing you around and speaking about the history of it.

Its really worth to pay extra ticket and see the mastaba of Mereruka, which is not crowded at all. Its something what will just throw you back to ancient Egypt. Beautiful reliefs depicting daily life, everywhere is spirit of Ancient Egypt. l was lucky that l was the only visitor inside mastada, so l could fully enjoy my stay inside,... More

Beautiful carvings depicting daily life in ancient Egypt. It was refurbished, so now it is even better. Less visitors than usual, so a must for interested people.

We went here in 2/2004 and I still remember it as one of my favorites! We went towards the end of the day, after touring the rest of Saqqara/Djoser so we had the place entirely to ourselves. The pictures inside are beautiful and still easy to see - hunting and fishing scenes, etc. At the time, my son was around... More

... in March 2012. We have visited it in 2001, it was open that time. This tomb is one of the most beautiful tombs in the Saqqara area. Don't be sad, there are many other tombs and mastabas open, that are as nice as this one.
