There is something about a peaceful felluca ride on the Nile toward sunset that is unforgettable. The serenity of lying back and taking in the passing iconic scenery with nothing but the current and the wind is very special. Then there is Ali Abbas, the skipper. He loves what he does and he's been sailing the Nile around Aswan for... More

Truly a wonderful experience! These traditional sailing boats also have motors and sailors enjoy sailing them, often opting to row rather than start the motor, which means that you get a quiet smooth ride on the Nile, the way Egyptians have for thousands of years. Sunset rides are amazing. Early morning rides are great too particularly to take photos. Get... More

Don't leave Egypt without taking at least one ride on a felucca. We took ours right before sunset and it was relaxing and amazing. It is an extremely smooth ride.

This was by far an awesome way to cruise the Nile river, without a cruise ship! You sail for several days on a local felucca (sailing boat), stopping at certain points along the way. Food is stored underneath and is prepared on the boat itself. Bring very warm clothes if you consider doing it in the winter time. Keep in... More

Enjoyed the 2 hour late afternoon sail along the nearby water of the Nile in Aswan. Especially liked our unpretentious captain, Sayed, and his small, down to earth felucca, ISIS, named after the goddess of sky and nature. Captain Sayed had nobody helping him but he was quite skilful in handling his craft including climbing the tall mast to release... More

I had originally booked a two-night cruise ship from Aswan to Luxor, but after meeting Captain Mohamed Ziggy at Aswan's port, I cancelled my trip. Why would I spend two days in a pool on the deck of a massive boat when I could sail down the Nile on a Felucca? So we built an itinerary together, and for five... More

After visiting the archeological sites in the morning, I had a couple of free afternoons and early evenings to walk along the corniche of Aswan. I was interested in taking a long distance felucca trip from Aswan to Luxor and spent the time interviewing the felucca captains up and the down the corniche. I interviewed 4 captains and the first... More
