There's nothing like a quick, authentic getaway if you are in the City of Nairobi for a short time!

Silole Sanctuary, accessible through the Masai Gate of Nairobi National Park, or down the Magadi Road to Masai Lodge is a must.

Here you can walk with the impala & warthogs on the plains which abut Nairobi National Park or you can explore several kilometers of ecologically rich habitat along the Kiserian & Empakasi Gorges (beware of buffalo!)

Rolf's Place & Masai Lodge are available for meals, whilst accommodation is offered at Silole Villa & Silole Cottage.

Kitengela Glass is great for shopping across the Kiserian suspension bridge on foot!

Perfect as a break from the city. Karibuni!

In an era when luxury tented camps with expresso makers and over the top lodges can cost over $800 per person per night, a fabulous cabin on the southern edge of Nairobi National Park provides a base camp for game drives to see rare rhino, cheetah, lions, leopard, colorful birds, and your own private verandah where giraffe and dik dik... We had stayed here some years back. It is a very nice place. Far from hustle and bustle in the middle of nature. Very relaxing and if you wish, an expert guide at your hands, who'll show you around Nairobi National Park. Most certainly you'll learn and see lots, WIll is an exellent and patient guide. Perfect get'away from the... More

It's very difficult to describe Silole. Much like Nairobi National Park itself, there is nowhere else quite like it. Nestled amongst the trees (and wildlife) it is an oasis in the desert of the everyday. If it wasn't for the city skyline in the distance, you'd forget you weren't a million miles away from "civilization." Take my advice, go on... More

My family spent a couple of very happy days at Silole staying in the peace and quiet of Silole Cottage. Early morning game drive with host Will Knocker gave us close ups of a lioness and cubs, rhino, hippo, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, countless buck and birds etc etc. Picnic breakfast at the dam takes a bit of beating. Then in... More

The Silolo private conservancy is little known but worth a visit for locals and tourists alike, wanting to get away and back to the basics. The cottages, catered or for selfcatering, are not fancy but offer all a visitor needs and the silhouette of the distant Nairobi skyline on the horizon makes one wonder if it is a mere mirage,... Love this place. The cottage at the sanctuary is for rent and has been newly renovated. It's a slingshot throw from Nairobi and not at all expensive. Bring your own food or eat at the hotel down the road. The verandah looks out upon Nairobi National Park and some of the wildlife may wander onto the property. A fireplace provides... More

My son and I spent a few days at Silole and with it's owner, Willie. Early morning coffees and evening sundowners on the cottage veranda with the wildlife strolling past just meters away. Just about as perfect a way to see nature up close and personal as you could want. A perfect guide round the National Park in Willie Knocker... More

The place is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Quiet, serene and makes you feel one with nature. The fire place is heaven sent especially in the cold weather and firewood is provided by the kind and gracious staff. The two rooms and lofts are very spacious and well kept. There is more than enough... More

We had a wonderful time at Silole Cottage. The staff were rather friendly, and provided for us firewood to keep us warm day and night. The cottage has two rooms and two lofts, with a central living area. The kitchen looked like something out of a Maeve Binchy novel, complete with a metal tea pot. :) The cottage provides spectacular... More
