This is a bit off the track but worth a visit. Gives nice insight into the settlement of Lamu. You'll need a guide but like most museums in Africa a good tip is $5. Have fun!

I have visited this museum before (13 years ago) and nothing seemed to have changed. There are some interesting exhibits but overall the museum looks a bit tired. Our young trainee guide was engaging though and obviously pleased to have some people to show around!

Make sure you take a bit of time to visit this very well designed museum full of wonderful pieces of history. The curator and guides are very knowledgeable and will make the experience one of the most memorable in Lamu.

Lamu museum is must visit if you're going to be staying in Lamu. There were lots of artifacts for this interested in learning about Swahili culture. Be careful about taking photos, make sure you seek permission from the staff first.

We enjoyed it because it gave a general overview of early life without too much detail. Interesting artifacts. Keep your entrance ticket as it gives you free entry to the fort.

What has the potential to be the star attraction of Lamu town is rather lacklustre and a bit dilapidated. Not wheelchair or disability friendly either. However, the museum tour is educational and interactive, giving visitors a glimpse into Swahili culture and history. I'd recommend a...More

Not much to see since it was similar to the house we were staying at. Also the $5 or $8 entrance fee seemed exorbitant. Plus it was so hot inside I almost passed out. I never passed out in my life. The humidity was overwhelming...More
