We hiked (as many do) from Jiankou to Mutianyu. If anyone is thinking that Jiankou is not worth the hike, money, or effort, you would be wrong. The un-restored section is beautiful and remote. We saw two other people, briefly, the entire hike before reaching...More

We used a Beijing Car Transfer Service - Google "Here is Beijing". John our local Chinese guide took us out to Xizhazi having picked us up at 6.30am from our central beijing hotel. He stopped along the way so we could get drink and food...More

Well, I'd written a very informative blog post about this section recently, alas TA will not let me post it. So here's a shorter summary: As others have mentioned it's no walk in the park, but within reach of those who are relatively fit. I'm...More

Go see Johnat hereisbejing.com!! I would have felt cheated had I only experienced the restored portions of the wall. This hike is a must-do ; to truly see The Wall as it was so many years ago. No tourists !! A bit of an adventure...More

Very tough and challenging section. Do not under-estimate the difficulty. We had a 3-4km uphill hike through paths in forest before getting to the wall. Best to engage a local guide in order not to get lost.

Certainly it was cold; -10 degrees in the village and then the windchill as we reached the Wall, but the views and the walk were definitely worth the journey. The 'Wild Wall' section from the Zhengbeilou Watch Tower to the Mutianyu restored section blended into...More

Very quiet, unrestored section of the Great Wall. We saw relatively few people and were mostly hiking without seeing others. It was a great way to experience the Wall.

It was raining on the day we visited the Great wall which was disappointing. It was slippery and dangerous to climb too far. It was foggy and the view did not improve as one climbed higher

My hike up this portion of the wall was truly amazing and really made me realize just how much of an accomplishment the Great Wall is. I would recommend going with a tour group though as some areas are very step and it can be...More

A great experience. I loved hiking on the unrestored portion of the wall around Jiankou. It was quite a hike up and down very steep portions but much better than the heavily touristed sections like at Mutianyu

You can try Beijing Walking +86 13581665548. We used Leo to take us to JianKou and hike to Mutainyu. You can also do it as an unguided tour. Reasonable price and provides transportation from Beijing.

It can be, depending on what form of transportation you can manage to arrange for the trip to the wall. Once st the wall you will want to spend a minimum 2 hours there. Have fun!

I would not know. I do not even know there is such a day tour. If there is such a day tour, I doubt it is legal. I would advise you to look into their legitimacy, insurance coverage, etc. Gratuities are normally not... More
