Simatai Section were not restored, it just left like what it is, you can experience some ruin. If you get down here, the best time is by the end of summer, around October or September, i've been here several times and i never get bored. the last thing on my bucket list is to camp there, watching sunrise and sunset,... Hard to say enough about this section of the wall. We walked 12 miles round trip with only a couple of other people. Had a picnic lunch on top of a watch tower, and then used the zip line to come back to the parking lot, This is truly the Wall the way it was. A must see. It does... More

Essential to wear hiking boats as you will be hiking the wild wall. Remember to bring back ALL your trash - only leave behind your foot prints. On a sunny day you also have to remember lots of water even local people will try to join your party to sell water, postcards and other small tourist items. You just can't... More

Probably due to winter, its not crowded. Cable car up the wall and climbing up the rest of the way. View is magnificent. The ancient chinese town has restaurants, art and books galleries, customary clothes and shoes, wayang shows etc. Took alot of beautiful pictures!

We did the Great Wall climb via Badaling 2 years ago but I find this section much better. There are 10 stop points but only station 9 & 10 are tougher because being up slope. After that, its down slope all the way with good views.

We visited Simatai Great Wall . While the Simatai great wall is further out and harder to access, it's worth the extra time and effort. It requires more drive time, but walking and steps to climb. It's much more peaceful and serene, and is not nearly as crowded as the Badaling great wall section.

One of my favorite wall sections around Beijing, due to its step hills and authenticity. Since it is far away from Beijing it is not that fully loaded of tourists.

Such an amazing place to experience the Great Wall. Stunning 360 degree views of the countryside, the wall in the distance, and Gubei Water Town. A steep climb that is a little precarious in places (as the wall has not been extensively restored, but that is part of the charm), it is worth every step. I came during winter and... More
