Fantastic. A must if you are in Beijing. A great achievement if you get a chance to walk on the great wall, see the sights and take in the history. Loved it.

Just over two hours drive from downtown Beijing this spot was totally worth the drive. No sense arriving before 9am because you can't make your way up until after 9:30am. There were not a lot of people and we were able to enjoy the Wall...More

Great tourist site for travelers. Make sure you wear: 1. Comfortable clothing(shorts and a light blouse) 2. Comfortable footware( jogging shoes for easy movement) 3. Facetowel 4. About 4 bottles of water. It's a long journey. You have to be prepared.

Mutianyu has great views and is a challenging climb. Many sections of the wall are steep, and a few people almost fell down the stairs. Don't buy any of the souvenirs - they're a total rip off and you can find cheaper things in town....More

Hi all I am soon to be going to China with my girlfriend. We will be arriving in Beijing on a Thursday in the afternoon, and we will be leaving the following Tuesday. We arrive in the second last week in August. I have heard that summer months are busy (especially the weekends, so we can rule out going to Mutianyu on the Saturday and Sunday), so we will consider going the Friday or Monday. As we arrive on the Thursday, would it be relatively easy to navigate the bus route option on the Friday morning, or would you recommend we wait till the Monday as we will be more familiar with Beijing itself. Would it be too much to take on less than 24hrs after arriving in a completely new country with very little English? Also, everywhere says its hot in the summer, but as it will be near the end of August, will it be cooler? Is the wall still doable in the heat. We will be doing it no matter what (as its our only time to do it), but I don't want it ruined from being too hot. Has anyone done it around this time of year. I may just get some beers into me up there!!
