Man made lake "insane"

Now understand why Chineses like to build big stuff, it is on their blood. This is a man made lake that the emperor made just to have some fun on summer time. That's insane... read more

I sat on my folding stool and enjoyed the beauty of this man-made lake. Many features of the lake were inspired by natural scenery in the southern region of Yangtze River. It was very calm and peaceful.

We were there in winter so the lake was frozen over and beautiful. There were a few people ice swimming. It was brilliant

My visit was on Mother’s Day, a beautiful, sunny spring day. My private guide chose to enter through the Eastern Gate, we walked the length of the Long Gallery, the flowering trees and other spring flowers were a special treat. I really enjoyed to be surrounded by lots of Chinese families in a happy mood. Lake Kunming is stunning, there... More

Another man-made lake that gives the Summer Palace its breathtaking aura. What the city lacks in natural landscape more than makes up for its ingenuity.

Located at the back of the Summer Palace is this man-made lake. We rented a pedal boat for an hour and it was quite pleasant as we managed to take some photos.

This huge man made lake is part of the summer palace. The sand where now the lake is, was used to make the mountain where upon the palace is build. It is huge. If you want to walk around the whole lake, bring good walking shoes, takes you at least half a day.

This is a breath-taking sight when you first get to the top of Longevity Hill. An enormous lake - in Beijing they don't do "small"!

We took a boat ride across this very large lake when visiting the Summer Palace. It is such a beautiful and peaceful sight even when there are crowds of people at the palace itself. There are places to sit and/or stand along the railing and just take some deep breaths and enjoy. Imagine the emperor coming to this place to... More

I came here 23 years ago and other than vendors and gift shops nothing obviously has changed. The sheer beauty of the lake was captivating and I wish I could have taken longer to appreciate it. But my flight was leaving that afternoon. I arrived before the hoards of Chinese tours and Westerners so I enjoyed the tranquillity of it... More
