This lake was formed by emperor Qianlong in 1750 as part of the summer palace . It is shallow and you can take a boat for fun sailing. A 17 arches bridge was built over it .

Kunming Lake is an artificial lake that covers just 2.2 square kilometers and surprisingly with an average depth of only about 1.5 metres and it covers about 3/4 of the Summer Palace grounds. As you arrive to visit the summer palace, you can see lots...More

This is a huge lake with parts being inside the summer palace. The long corridor actually built along the lake shore which made it more scenic. We strolled under the corridor and walked back along the lake, very relaxing.

The lake inside the summer palace is handmade and a copy of the real Kunming lake. The summer palace consist in tree quarters of lake and the rest are buildings and park area. Great place for a pick nick a walk and some good pictures.

We had a nice "dragon boat" ride to the summer palace across Kunming Lake. Nice crowds here, less pushing and shoving.

The lake is manmade and covers three quarters of the area of the Summer Palace. Very picturesque and great to stroll along or sit and people watch. You could even take a short dragon boat trip to Longevity Hill and the Tower of Buddhist Incense....More

I thought this lake was made naturally but in fact it was not. This was a huge man-made lake! It is in summer palace. Good place to take photos.

Lots of history around the lake with old palaces and imperial retreats. You can rent boats to sail around the lake or just go for a long walk.

The Chinese appreciate the beauty of nature, but if not, create it themselves. This is clearly seen on lake Kunming. Hard to guess that the lake is artificial, so it looks "natural".The construction of the Palace began with the fact that the lake was dug.....More
