Located near a lake and a reservoir, this part of the Wall is called Yellow Flower Fortress and is a good place for hiking.Huanghuacheng Section of the Great Wall is a resort with mountains, lakes and theancient Great Wall. There are very few people to be found here, but it is becomingpopular with hikers. There is a lake and a crescent shaped reservoir nearby. And the lake breaks this sectionof the Great Wall into three segments naturally. Part of the wall is under water and becomes submerged at high tide. So the Huanghuacheng Great Wall is nicknamed "Water Great Wall".The scenery here is unique and will surprise you.

The terrain varies. Steps which are. It restored. Unpaved. Some parts really steep to go up and down. Not for the faint hearted. But great view. Better than the restored Baidaling and Mutianyu where there are so many tourists. Go in the morning. May need...More

Get ready to walk one of the world's longest wall and biggest ancient architecture. This was by far the HIGHLIGHT of my trip. If you go to China and do not visit a segment of the Great Wall you are missing out. A MUST SEE!!!!...More

I was just back here after my first time 11 years ago. Back then there the locals helped us enter the park, now they have an organized ticket area. We took a bus from Dongzhimen bus station. After entering there is a ticket booth and...More

Fairly straightforward to get to, get a bus from central Beijing (can't remember the numbers but they're in the lonely planet book) then change to another bus in a town north of Beijing, takes around 2.5 hours total with traffic. As in anywhere in china...More

Go early to get there by 9.30 am and you will be ahead of the main crowds ....pretty moderate climbing involved but reasonably safe ...good bus tours available from Beijing .

Twenty-eight of us went.... not all made it to the top tower. The wall is perched on the mountains and you will go up and up the stairs. Let me make you aware that the stairs or steps are uneven and some are higher than...More

Definitely bike out with Bike Beijing. Great, reasonable ride, terrific lunch, and no crowds! See if Francis can take you!

The steep inclines, irregular and often deep steps, absence of handholds, and broken stones make this a challenge for inexperienced hikers, but worth the effort for the challenge and stunning views.

Is it possible to walk from Huanghuacheng to Mutianyu? Or would you recommend just driving from one to the other?

Not realy. It's very far from HuangHua Cheng to MuTian Yu, the condition of the wall there is not good, it can take you about 10 hours easily, and the trail is dangerous. It's not recommended.
