Overcrowded and loud Wan Chai you find this sacred place of peace even more attractive and pulling you in, meditating a little bit before entering the colorful world of HK once again. A must see for everyone staying in Central.

This place was rather busy with people praying when I came so I did not have as much of a look as I would have liked but it is small and pretty as well as interesting and is in direct contrast to the bustling streets of Wan Chai around you.

Hong Kong is full of contrasts and this temple nestled between the high rises is an illustration of that. There are two small rooms inside with the typical incense smell. Worth taking a look.

It is said that your wish will become true if you pray sincerely here. It is believed that the fortune telling here is accurate. Do come and see.

The Hung Shing Temple in Wan Chai is one of around a dozen such temples in Hong Kong dedicated to Hung Shing, a government official during the Tang Dynasty. This particular small temple, found along Queen's Road East was built around 1840 around a preexisting shrine. It is an included stop on the Wan Chai Heritage trail and is a... More

Hung Shing Temple honours the god of the same name. He was a government official from the Tang Dynasty and, as a god, protects against natural disasters. This is quite a typical little HK temple. It is nice, but not worth a special trip. Chances are that you will be in the area at some point during your stay in... More

We saw this temple on the map and were walking along Queen's Road East and came across this lovely little temple and were surprised by the smallness of the temple. It was well kept and you could just go in and look around. I didn't go up stairs unfortunately. Maybe next time

Nice temple tucked in a busy street. Do get inside. Huge tree at the back of the temple. Go upstairs for more rooms including the very nice office for the person in charge.

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
