Island and residential community near Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung
Jan 2022
Tsing Yi is a small island and town to the west of the Kowloon Peninsula and south of Tsuen Wan. The area has history of being inhabited by fisherman and farmers and was built up as an industrial base during the second half of the 20th century. The Hong Kong government designated Tsing Yi as part of the New Towns development project and began building it up as a residential township and community in the 1970s. Today, you will find numerous residential estates, schools, parks, shopping centres and all the typical signs of a thriving township at Tsing Yi with fast connecting transportation to the Kowloon Peninsula, HK Island, New Territories and Hong Kong International Airport on Lantau Island. For visitors to Hong Kong, there is an important Airport Express interchange station at Tsing Yi. There are no major hotels here but given the high level of connectivity, there is little need for them at Tsing Yi as well. Just next to the MTR Station, there is a very nice city park and major shopping mall call Maritime Square where you will find a good range of retail shops, casual eateries and coffee shops. You will also find a nice waterfront promenade that is nearly 2km in full length, again accessible from the MTR Station. The island has a notable nature trail which reaches its elevated grounds where there are views of nearly the full island and beyond over the Rambler Channel. Lastly, there is an isolated Lantau Island Link Visitor Centre on the northwest side of the island from where you can see both the Ting Kau and Tsing Ma Bridges quite well.

Nice place, away from the crowd and city. There is a mall here for shopping and many food options. Facing the sea too. Nice view.

...with two surprisingly lovely parks to visit and a decent mall as well (Maritime Square). I used to live near here and passed through every day but only recently actually set aside time to explore the island and I would also recommend it as a way of seeing a residential area which feels very local, a world away from HK Island and lower Kowloon in terms of demographics. And obviously from my title, it’s very each time reach from most nearby and main areas of the city.

If you're a traveler but you can't dine at local food because you cannot read Chinese or no time to visit the local food place, you can drop by at this mall to eat fastfood.

After you reached Tsing Yi mtr station , you can access the Tsing Yi park and there's a mall located right next to the MTR. The park itself is well maintained and you can walk in the park in the morning. You can enjoy the nature here. Both park and the mall located next to each other. Outside the mall , you can view ships sailing and skyscraper from afar. Overall I pretty satisfied with my visit. The information centre personnel inside the mall is also very friendly although could not speak English. He's trying his very best to give us the direction. Love his gesture!

Tsing Yi is quite closed to the airport and HK disneyland.
It is one stop from airport by airport express that might take about 17 minutes only.
And it is one stop away from HK disneyland line.
So, it is easy for people to have dinner and shop in Tsing Yi after visiting Disneyland.
Most people would go to Martimes square because it is a big shopping center next to the MTR station.
Most tourists won't explore the other local areas in Tsing Yi.
There are 2 parks and you could ride a bike in one of them.
if time allowed, you might try to walk on the natural trail that is easy to walk.

Parking - MTR station with airport express (1 stop & 30 minutes to airport) - so very convenient. Many shops and a supermarket - Marks & Spencer here too!

The step between Kowloon and Tsuen Wan regarded as an industrial area but with many residential complexes and estates.

Great shopping mall in Maritime Square and a scenic promenade along Rambler channel. Lots of sporting activities in the stadium and adjacent swimming pool.

Pleasant place to live, work and play.
