Nice but

Very good and full of historical about Jakarta history. Good tour guides. But the crowded environment and the parking ??? No place (i mean real safety parking lot) for parking !!!

Kota tua is not only fatahillah. You name it masjid luar batang. So dirty. Not like you can pray there. Kinda slum area. Very very very upset

I spent a few hours wandering through three crappy museums (Bank Indonesia, puppet, bank mandiri), and along the markets and through Chinatown. I have eaten street food everywhere - including Delhi - but I wouldn't eat the street food here. The smells were nauseating, especially the overpowering smell of urine along the canal. Where folks are washing clothes. Worth walking... More

We spent several hours exploring Jakarta on foot, with an excellent guidebook about Jakarta. The Fatahillah square is, of course, well preserved, as it attracts many tourists, has several museums. But try to venture few blocks away and you will run into beautiful, old colonial buildings that are falling apart, as no one takes care of them. It is still... More

Not by choice, but by luck, I hired a guy on a motor bike to take me on a tour of Jakarta. I warned him that if I die, he didn't get paid. That said, he took me through old town, the old port, to the Muslim Elementary School where President Obama was a student. We zoomed in and out... More

An interesting place to see with the central square surrounded by old and original buildings. The museum showing the history is very good . Try a bike ride it is fun

Little by little this once forgotten enclave of Jakarta was left to the dirt. As time passes by, more and more officials are realising the cultural reality and necessity to maintain the area for years and generations to come as it stood as the first city center of 'Batavia' back in the old Dutch days. Its amazing how within a... More

Third time the charm, I finally made it to the Old town of Jakarta after three times on business trip in Indonesia. This place always appears on Asian Food Channel when there's Indonesian food involved and I really wanted to see it in real life. The place was certainly crowded but it was only to be expected as it's a... More
