I'm not a newbie in this contrastingly urban city but if you're planning to hit Jakarta as a first-timer and you've got generous time on hand, I would suggest this iconic highlight in your to-visit list. A couple of landmarks concentrated in this area. It's just across the National Museum and to its north-east are the Istiqlal Mosque and the... More

don't pay a visit during holidays, it'd be so crowded with visitors which consist mostly by children at school age. but this place surely worth a visit, many dioramas which explain Indonesia's history back from colonial age to post proclamation.

A nice tower, where you also are able to go up to the top but the way there is a bit complicated. You have to go to a gate next to the building, down the stairs, trough a tunnel to a ticket counter, then you go up again and walk to the building. There you have to queu and wait... More

The Highlight of the City probably. The monument is surrounded by gardens. It took us a while to find the entrance. It costs 20.000 Rp to go to the top. Absolutely worth the price. Amazing view.

There is a beautiful exposition underground, below the monument. It depicts Indonesian history with an enormous work of art all around the gallery. Yes! The access to the top of the monument is enjoying because you have to queue a long time waiting for a single elevator that is quite slow to take you to the top. When you are... More

In addition to having a viewing deck and an impressive view of the surrounding mark, the National Monument houses a series of dioramas that illustrate the history of Indonesia, perhaps in a rather biased manner (depending on one's own bias). I visited on a week day, and the monument was full of school groups. There were children everywhere, and it... More
