As it is basically mandatory to visit the national monument, we of course went by. The garden/park surrounding the monument was very nice. The access in and out was bad though, and some of the gates were closed off, and caused a 20 minutes detour...More

We wandered through the park to see the monument but found ourselves staying much longer and admiring it whilst relaxing in the shade. The park is beautiful and quiet and a nice contrast to the busy streets on a hot day. We enjoyed chattering to...More

The monument and associated museum are both pretty mediocre. The queue for the lift to the top was long and I didn't have the patience to wait around. The park is quite nice though and a good way to escape the traffic of Jakarta.

As we were strapped for time we could only go there rather late at night. We could not go close as the gates were shut... but The structure looks good from a distance

Nothing out of the ordinary but if in Jakarta, worth visiting. Surrounded by nice gardens around the area

Well, in a city lacking any meaningful sites you cannot afford to be picky. Against that backdrop Monas fits the bill. Go (very) early if you want to go to the top. I went at 10am on a weekday during Ramadan and they told me...More

Which gate is it that is open to MONAS? Please give an exact description so that we can avoid the long walk since we will be with older people who have arthritis? Some of the reviewers said that it is the North gate that is open, but as I view it on the map the Merdeka square has four gates, one on each corner. Thus, there are two gates on each corner of the north side and two gates on each corner of the South. I can interpret that the north left side gate is actually the north gate, the north right side gate is the east gate, south left gate is the west gate and the south right gate is the actually south gate.

If you wait for the little transportation bus they have when you enter; it will take you directly to where you have to enter. Great place to go to see and read about Indonesian history and it's struggle for independence.
